EAMom Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) http://www.latitudes.org/articles/singh_neuro_ts.html Autism and PANDAS are discussed Edited January 11, 2012 by EAMom
kim Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 EAmom, You might like to read through this paper too. http://www.mendeley.com/research/gaba-acetylcholinerelated-gene-expression-blood-correlate-tic-severity-microarray-evidence-alternative-splicing-tourette-syndrome-pilot-study/#page-1 The alternative mechanisms on page 5 is interesting from a PANDAS perspective and basically along the sames lines of what Singh was discussing (effects of GABA etc. on immune cells). You will see Frank Sharp's name on this paper. He has a daughter affected by "TS," amd he mentions something about a best friend of his with an affected son in this video (i think). Here is another article explaining his view http://www.theaggie.org/2011/02/02/column-what-makes-tourettes-tic/ excerpt When cells split into new cells, their DNA has to be copied into identical strands. During this process, DNA is spliced into sections. In kids with Tourettes, the splicing step goes wrong. A section of DNA that should code for one protein is split, and the genes produce new proteins. This splicing problem is heritable, which explains how Tourettes runs in families without actually showing up in genes. No one’s sure how to stop the splicing errors, but epigenetics is encouraging. The solution could be something like prenatal nutrition, or it could be a lot more complicated. It’ll take a while, but Sharp sees epigenetics as an option for other diseases, like autism and multiple sclerosis.
BoyIowa Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Did I miss the: "I have a one-page write-up about my research and recommended lab tests [see end of article] that I am happy to share with the family or physician"?
eljomom Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Wow. I'd seen the article by singh a while ago and almost tried to contact him. not sure why. so this may sound totally stupid, but has anyone tried GABA for tics?
kim Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 BoyIowa, There is a phone # listed at the bottom of that article. That interview is older so I have no idea if he's still active in this research. eljomom, That's not a stupid question at all and yes there have been people who have used it. You could do a search of the forums and see what has been reported.
