need help Uncontrollable laughter

Recommended Posts

We have our neuro appointment wednesday but I can't hlep but find out as much as I can.

My four year old has begun having uncontrollable fits of laughter out of nowhere. he started having one or two a day and then last week they sky rocketed one day he had 15. THis is what is happening he a lot of time looses his balance and is in a fit of uncontrollable laughter for no reason on the floor. after about 9 to 15 seconds his stomach begins contracting and he then is saying 'uh uh uh' sometimes he says words but he has very unclear speech to begin with so I can't make it out. Has anyone heard of a tic like this????

He has had tics come and go since he was 2 first it was blinking, then clearing his throat, humming, neck twtich .they stay a few months and then disappear. this one is in week three its the first one that has every been a serious safety issue because he falls 1/2 the time.thanks.

Hi Steph and welcome :)

I have seen both my husband and son have TS "laughing" vocal tics but not quite the way you describe what is happening with your son, nor with any falling down.

I know how disturbing it is when a tic has the potential to cause injury!

Good that you are going to a neurologist for diagnosis but PLEASE do approach any prescription meds with caution and a lot of questions and research, especially in such a young child.

If you read thru some of the other threads here you will find lots of info on treating tics and tourettes without prescription meds, and the side effects they frequently cause.

Let us know how the doctor visit goes.

Steph,

I ran across this and thought it might be something you might want to read too.

http://www.ccid.org/stealth/encephalopathy.htm

There are so many area's to search for these types of problems. I would also recommend that you get copies of any reports from tests that the neurologist might order. Read them yourself. It appears some parents find info. that turns out to be important that the Dr. may have dismissed.

Thoughts are with you today.

My son at one point used to fall down alot was unable to walk straight and was walking into objects.

He also had a host of other issues, like no neck control, vocal tics, body shakes, etc...

The neurologist tested him for a tumor but thank God nothing came of it.

However, since we been doing various treatments including detoxing, diet restrictions, supplements, etc those issues and others for the most part are history.

I wanted to update. The eeg showed this laughter is actually seizures and we had an mri. Taft has a low grade brain tumor in his right frontal lobe. WE met with a neurosurgeon but she can't be certain that the tumor is causing the seizures because of the eeg so they are consulting and will get back to us. thanks!!
