Hi everyone, new to the board. My daughter was diagnosed at three by Dr. Nicholaides with PANDAS. Just curious, I never seem to see her name pop up here. has anyone had any experience with her. I am trying to decide if we should switch to Dr B. Not quite ready for IVIG just yet, but I suspect we will be soon so i wanted to get started with someone who does that.

I don't have personal experience with either doc (I'm in CA) but my impression is that Dr. B. is quite thorough (eg looks at sources of underlying infection, immune status) and has a good reputation with PANDAS parents on this site.

Frankly, I think that each really reputable specialist has his/her own way of treating PANDAS. Some agree with Dr. B's more aggressive and multiple approach when utilizing IVig, some do not. Some people think that longer use of abx is important to try prior to IVig and some do not. I think that if you have a reputable doc on board who works with you, explains things well and gives you options, you are likely doing OK. Each kiddo is different and responds to various treatments differently, as evidenced by all that you read on this forum! I chose Dr. B as an addition to our team solely upon the consistency of positive commentary by parents on this forum. He has not steered me wrong yet and my son is doing extremely well after a long and serious roller coaster with PANDAS for over half of his little life (now age 5). Incidentally, my son is being treated with abx alone and has never had any other form of treatment.

Recovery from this illness often takes time. If your child is not improving over a reasonable length of time and your specialist is not willing to, or interested in discussing other treatment options, it may be time to add another specialist to the mix or move on.

Best to you and your family. -Kath
