smartyjones Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 philamom -- only mention b/c you are talking about homeopathy for acute symptoms. . . if you're considering some help from that approach.. . better/worse symptoms by the shore; symtpoms worse in the car; symptoms worse at certain times of day -- and mroe -- are all things that homeopaths take into consideration when addressing issues
philamom Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) I'm so sorry things are going down hill like this. Our issues never got this bad, so I don't have any great advice. The SeaBands wrist bands really helped my when I had morning sickness. They work instantly and are only a few dollars - you can get them at any pharmacy. that might help a little. A few saltines in bed before DD gets up might help. Or warm ginger ale. For car rides, i sometimes need to keep the window cracked. For the train ride, maybe one of those hand held mini-fans to keep air circulating? I know these are lame, but maybe they'll help take the edge off or at least make DD feel like she has a few options? I tried the sea bands on her two years ago and it didn't help. I'll try again - even if they don't, maybe she'll feel in control somewhat. If I draw any attention to the matter (while in the car) it seems to make the situation worse -so If I crack the window, she get's irrational and insist I close it. I am addressing her fear of vomiting by talking about it while at home (and she's ok with it) with her and she is attempting the car rides. Today, we didn't make it to our destination on our second trip- had to turn around. I have been at times giving her a tsp of gingerale mixed with water. I will try the saltines throughout the day. She takes Prevacid on an empty stomach in the morning and has to wait 30 minutes b4 eating. thx Edited January 8, 2012 by philamom
sptcmom Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 What supplement/products will give FAST relief of severe nausea, even if temporary? My daughter will not leave the house again (this happened 2 yrs ago). I am working on her fear of vomiting while in a car, but, this is definitely more of a physical nature then a fear. I'm rewarding her each day for a short ride in the afternoon to a local store 5-10 minutes away. She cannot accomplish this in the morning. We need to take a train to see Dr. B soon and I'm worried she will not be able to go through with it. Do any of the above products work instantly? Any other suggestions? My vertigo, air sickness and car sickness has been cured after lyme treatment. But prior to that what I would do in a bind would be keep sucking on Halls menthol throat lozenges. The peppermint always does the trick for me- soothing cool, calming and just helps. Selzer water lemon flavored gave me a few burps and it was great for nausea. Now medication wise- I guess you could try the orange flavored chewable Dramamine. That obviously works great but does take 10 mins to kick in. DS eats a few organic mint leaves and that helps him along with a throat lozenge- the sucking is soothing for him.
SSS Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 When I was green sick with nausea during a pregnancy, could barely function, Dr. gave me a script for Zofran and I sucked quality peppermint candies. I'm so sorry- sending PV's--
philamom Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 Thank you. These are all great suggestions. I hope something helps.
philamom Posted January 8, 2012 Author Report Posted January 8, 2012 When I was green sick with nausea during a pregnancy, could barely function, Dr. gave me a script for Zofran and I sucked quality peppermint candies. I'm so sorry- sending PV's-- Yes, you just reminded me of something. When she had these issues two years ago, I recall reading some posts where the child was given a script for a medicine to help with post IVIG nausea. Maybe it was Zofran. Is it ok for children? I'll look into it? thx

I'm so sorry- sending PV's-- I talked to the Pharmacist and he thought the Zofran might be the way to go. He remembers two years ago when we were in the same situation and about to sedate Dd completely to get her to CT. We backed out at the last minute due to the concern of something happening during the 3+hr drive. The difference now is my daughter is in a better place with her non-physical symptoms, so is more willing to try and work through this. Did it work right away? Any side effects? Did it make you sleepy? thx
SSS Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Hi- It did not make me sleepy, and I did not feel it in my 'head'- It did help me not want to throw up after I ate, which was where I was at, whilst being starving all the time. Now, I did not hardly take it- too paranoid while newly pregnant, I guess, but, knowing I had it in the cabinet in case it got real bad, did help me. If it were me, and I was in a severe place like you, have to get her out/okay for appointment, I would use it, and be totally okay with it at her weight dose. Edited January 8, 2012 by S & S

I need to see if her recent elevated LFT's will be an issue. They are close to normal now (AST 40, ALT 31) from triple digits in September.
sptcmom Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I haven't started them so I will switch to the 6X. Something's been haywire since early September. We went to the shore for two days and she's been battling physical symptoms ever since, worsening as time goes on. The multi-vitamin we use is a cheapie from Trader Jo's- I don't think there is iron in it. I keep meaning to purchase a better brand. Now waiting to do the KPU urine test first. I will google low Taurine. It wouldn't suprise me if dd isn't able to absorb fats properly. I thought about that before. We had the same severe nausea/ GI issues before that went completely away for 9 months while on lyme treatment. Right now she is NOT on any antibiotics - since the end of September. She also now has significant leg pain, and all over joint pain at times as well. Some new labs are trickling in: Total Cholesterol 90 L (ref 125-170) HDL Cholesterol 23 L (ref 37-75) Triglycerides 227 H (38-135) A month ago it was 82 Sed rate: 94 H (ref <20) Iron, Total 25 L (ref 27-164) Iron Binding Capacity 263 L (ref 271-448) Ferritin is normal AST 40 H (down from triple digits in September) ALT 31 H (" ") RBC, Hemoglobulin, Hematocrit- Low Globulin- High Albumin/Globulin Ratio- Low DNASE B- 298 normal *came down gradually from 663 in September In January & May Sed Rate was 2. In August it was 14. In November it was 96, then 92. In December it was 94. The Sed rate is an acute phase reactant. Its very imp to note that its been increasing and at 94 the inflammation is pretty high in her body. iron is low meaning her diet is deficient or body is not able to absorb properly. There is also the possibility that iron stores are getting depleted due to poorly controlled bacterial overgrowth. The best way to calm down inflammation due to microbial processes is switch abx to those with immune-modulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. There was a thread running on the Pandas forum yesterday. I usually recommend abx pulsing (the LLMD is usually on board)along with lyme smoothie with liposomal ultrasound processing of the smoothie before taking it. The ingredients I can PM you but the taste is terrible. I disguise it in Mango juice. Next I switch the patient to anti-inflammatory diet and increase detox and drainage. Final step is to use the Bemer 3000 at an anti inflammatory setting once a week for 45 minutes. This brings about a huge reduction of symptoms in a few days so far in my experience incl with my own DS. DS gets severe head shakes and body shakes if the sed rate rises so I needed a fast acting protocol and the fastest has been this one and it still takes 3 to 4 days. The nausea is most probably due to GI inflammation.

philamom Posted January 9, 2012 Author Report Posted January 9, 2012 When I was green sick with nausea during a pregnancy, could barely function, Dr. gave me a script for Zofran and I sucked quality peppermint candies. I'm so sorry- sending PV's-- I want to thank you for mentioning the Zofran. You never know when something that has worked for you (or your child) can help someone else. That's what so great about sharing our ideas/experiences. I was at our local DO this morning (9am) for the prescription. Gave my daughter a dose at 11:30. Got her to the GI specialist appt. at 1:30 without kicking and screaming. It really helped...at least she now knows she has something to help with the trip...reducing some of her anxiety as well. The GI (actually nurse practitioner) recommended an endoscope & colonoposcy and my daugher totally flipped out. She was crying and shaking with those deer-in-the-headlights pupils. The nurse was shocked that a 10yr old would react with such fear. The more she tried to calm her the more Dd got upset. I told her I'm not considering at this time - just to calm her for the drive home. Geez - I'll have to figure this one out.
SSS Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I am so glad the Zofran worked out, so sorry for the struggle right now. I can tell you my dd would have also flipped out at the thought of that procedure- *sigh* Hang in there, and PV's for a turn around, feeling better.
