LNN Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 DS, DD and I are all taking CORE. It has done wonders. However, with all of us on it, one bottle lasts 24.5 days. At $74/bottle, this is a budget-breaker. Now, having the kids get so much better is certainly worth $25 per kid, and there's no way I'd consider dropping pryoluria treatment. But I'm wondering if anyone knows of a more affordable option. We already take plenty of pills, so not crazy about supplementing individual ingredients. But are there similar combo products out there?
MichaelTampa Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I have used Country Life's zinc picolinate to good use many different time periods. Of course that's just zinc. There are some combo mineral products out there, maybe hunt around at a health food store and you'll see some. I'll be shocked if anyone out there has all those different forms of zinc all in one pill, let alone that along with some of the other minerals in there. But, you could probably find something vaguely close to that, that perhaps you could try and see how it goes. (Or, if you have access to energy testing, you could test which is best as you sort through options.)
Suzan Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 In talking with out new doc, he feels dd9 is getting too many minerals from CORE. He is considering dropping her down to 2 CORE and supplementing with zinc. She showed still low in zinc even after all this CORE supplementation but her other minerals show high. I showed low in zinc and copper so I'm taking both now too. Anyway, I don't know of any other product that has the same stuff in it. I totally hear you on the cost. It's expensive! Susan
JuliaFaith Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 You are right that CORE is expensive. Ds is taking about $700/month+ in non-prescription meds which is difficult to say the least! Do not know anything else that would supplement for this but just checked and my son was on it for 4 months and then taken off of it. Not sure if this was after another hair sample was done where he was showing more absorption of vitamins. Soooo it could be a short amount of time that you may need to be on it. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.
LNN Posted December 22, 2011 Author Report Posted December 22, 2011 Thanks everyone. Suzan - I'm kinda where you are. Thinking of substituting one CORE and using a zinc pincolate in its place for all of us. Will see the LLMD today and get his thoughts. Also, the kids are super wound up (aside from Xmas excitement). DS is very hyperactive (but not ADHD) and DD is super silly - unable to control it - very "Pandas-like" but no signs of yeast issues. I find that if I take Core at dinner, I have a hard time falling asleep and tend to wake up at 3:30 or 4am and can't fall back asleep. If I take it earlier in the day, I don't have this problem. Anyone else experience this? I've been giving everyone 1/2 of their daily Core at breakfast and the other 1/2 at 4pm after school - thinking it's good to give nutrients spread out across the day rather than an overload all at once, which might be a waste. However, if the whole issue with KPU is that you need to flood the system just to have enough absorbed, would it be better to give it all at once, and if so, what time of day? Experiences?
sf_mom Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 As you know, we do periodic ART muscle testing and this particular Dr. does follow Dr. Ks protocols for the most part. We also stopped treating with Core after about 4 months for older DS and myself because we were no longer testing for it. However, our older son does test for Kaprex AI which is an anti-inflammatory and has lower levels of zinc in it. I think Susan suggestion might be worth a try or stopping for a trail period. We stopped with younger DD due to concerns of heavy metals. It is my understand that sometimes it is just too much from heavy metal dumping = inflammation. We are also experiencing some early evening hyperactivity 'silliness' in younger DS with an inability to sleep through the night. He was waking at similar time periods nightly (sometimes twice a night) and this has been going on since August along with fungal infection, starting Core and preschool nap. His obvious sign of fungal infection was a black tongue but it is not always that easy to detect. I attribute some of this behavior to the fungal infection some to potentially needing a rotation in antibiotics to treat other infections. We have been hitting the Bartonella hard for a very long time. We have an appointment with LLMD right after New Year and hope to get his perspective. As for the sleep issue we tried melatonin and we still had night waking. We tried other herbal remedies to no avail. Recently we tried 500 m.g. of L-tryptophan and within five days he was drastically improved. We are relieved.... to say the least. I have only supplemented with one Core pill a day for him and are considering stopping when the bottle is finished also. We will perhaps revisit treating KPU in the future.
JuliaFaith Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 With the CORE son started at 2 capsules with a meal and worked up to 4 eventually. He tested negative for KPU.
LNN Posted December 23, 2011 Author Report Posted December 23, 2011 Just a follow up to complete my thought after seeing the LLMD yesterday. He likes the balance of supplements in Core and didn't want us to mess with cutting back and using just zinc pincolate in place of any of the Core pills. I may do it for myself, as I'm not his patient and if money is going to be cut back, it will be on me first. But he wants the kids to stay on "the good stuff". He felt the erratic behaviors we seeing, esp. in DD, is likely a mix of things, especially copper chelating as a response to the zinc. We lowered the dose temporarily but will need to push thru to get to the other side.
sf_mom Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Thanks for update... Great perspective and helpful perhaps to our younger DS. Edit: What are you using for the detox portion again? We've used the Bentonite, Chlorella, Captomer for older DS. The chlorella is an issue for younger DS so hoping for some additional ideas. I found that pushing through was a good thing for dd9 and it didn't last too long. Susan
sptcmom Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 I have used Spectramin from Energetix as an alternative to Core for some of my fussy pediatric patients. Works fine. Combination of spectramin, rehydrate and alka C works even better. Can be made into a fizzy drink. I find most of my pediatric patients test less for Chlorella tablets, more for Chlorella growth factor and for microsilica as the detox agents. detox using Energetix supplements which are homeopathic liquids is another option. ART customization is the best way to do it but generally Drainage tone, Lymph tone, liver tone are all excellent organ toners and lymphopath is a sarcode prep that can be useful if the body hasnt been detoxed in a while. As always, practitioner guidance is important.
sf_mom Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Sptcmom: Which brand of Chlorella Growth Factor and is it the liquid form.. How does it taste and what is typical dose for child? Sun is fairly expensive so any perspective would be helpful but will also ask LLMD at next appointment.

One teaspoon once a day is good.
