debbie5846 Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 My husband is being treated for Lyme disease and now also Bartonella, he is having a LOT of anxiety, and anger issues. This has me very concerned. The doctor recently put him on Kavinase 2 pills at lunch and 2 at bedtime, this is helping him to sleep better, but he is still having anxiety and anger issues. I am very concerned because this is starting to affect him at work. I am looking for any suggestions for a supplement that we can add to the Kavinase to help with the anxiety and anger. THANKS!!
JuliaFaith Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 Oops. You must have been typing this as I was typing an answer under Wilma's thread. There is a short comment there if you care to read it.
LNN Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 I hadn't heard of Kavinase before but it looks like mostly a B6 supplement. You may also want to explore detox treatments. Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA), N-Actylcysteine (NAC), SAMe, Milk Thistle, bentonite clay, activated charcoal, 5-HTP and chlorella are all things you can explore. You can also use the forum search tool to find old discussions on the topic. Be advised that some of these things should not be used together (e.g. NAC, SAMe and 5-HTP have similar effects and could amplify each other so pick one, not all) and Milk thistle is contra-indicated if you're taking certain medications. So do try to do some research or ask your LLMD. I personally have become a fan of chlorella as a great thing to mop up toxins. Unlike charcoal, it has the added benefit of keeping the bowels moving, but the down side is if you only take a small amount (e.g. 10 pills) you can feel nauseous and it's better to take more, not less. My daughter felt sick to her stomach taking 10 but my son takes 30 with no problem. The pills are small and an adult could take 5-10 in one swallow. The best/cheapest source I found is from mercola.com ($14/450 pills) We have all dealt with rages on this forum. Most of us have kids with tick-borne illnesses, but then the moms have discovered they have it too. So you'll see a lot of kid issues discussed here, but adult issues as well. The kids have a really hard time controlling their feelings. Cognitive Behavior Therapy helps a lot with anxiety and rage. The brain detox stuff like NAC/SAMe/5HTP/ALA help with anxiety. The liver/gut detox helps with rages - in my experience. You can also go to google books and look for some lyme books or detox books - you can often read most of a chapter of a book for free.
philamom Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 I haven't used this product from Nutramedix, but have been using Burber on my daughter for detox. I saw this why googling and thought I would post. The dreaded lyme rage… surely most of us have experienced it by now? The don’t-bother-me-or-I’ll-scream rage, or the I’m-gonna-kill-something rage? The type of rage that can easily ruin relationships and make your life even more miserable. Fortunately, there are ways to at least take the edge off of the rage, and in many cases, evaporate it entirely. So, here we go… The absolute FIRST thing that you need to do when you feel yourself under the black cloud of Lyme Rage is EAT if you haven’t in a while. Low fuel (and likely low blood sugar) can trigger full-blown lyme rage all on its own. Drink some water as well, since dehydration can also add to a rage. For some reason, both low fuel and dehydration make a lymie go into a major rage more than a ‘normal’ person, so be sure to eat and drink sufficiently throughout the day. Once you’ve taken care of these easy to fix issues, the next step is to look at herbal Rage Busters. My favorite herbal Rage Buster is Avea Mood by Nutramedix. This stuff has been known to evaporate rage in mere seconds! 10-20 drops in water, and drink it down. Easy enough, and the stuff is pretty tasteless as well.
SSS Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 (edited) I just started Bartonella treatment for myself (and it coincided with PMS- wow) I was reading your post thinking: it must be really hard for him to have to get up every morning and be 'on' all day at a full time job. My Dr. did put me on lithium orate (supplement, not a prescription) also a rememdy called 'gentle drainage' he told me I had to walk every day for 30 minutes (he actually told me 2x a day!) drink 8 oz. glasses of water 8x a day, and instead of the 2nd walk, I am taking a hot epsom salt bath every night in my jetted tub. Once I get in, my body loves it, and sweat pours off my head, and I am sweating at night (lovely, I know, but hey.) I think all this is helping me, as I am on a whammy antibiotic (Levaquin 500 mg, and I weigh 103) plus 100 million probiotics, vitamins and minerals, and I am eating a high fiber cereal every night before bed to keep everything moving. The detox is important, and many times getting out the door is the hardest part, but when I am done, I am calmer. Same with the bath- really calms me down. I'm using 2 + cups of full epsom salts, hot water to toleration, stay in 20 minutes. I have some charcoal supplement, thinking of trying it- (away from everything else, that's the hard part) Hang in there-- I also agree on the eating- sometimes I will start to feel very unwell, look kind of green, and don't feel hungry really, but then I eat a good meal, and feel better. debbie5846 Posted September 7, 2011 Author Report Posted September 7, 2011 I wanted to Thank everyone, for there input and suggestions. This is all much harder to deal with than I thought it would be. We where so happy to finally have a diagnosis, and never imagined all that went along with it. My husband is currently on Chlorella 1000mg, he takes 4 pills at bedtime. The doctor suggested adding L-Theanine, an amino acid that is suppose to have a calming effect. Does anyone have experience with this? Any and all suggestions for dealing with the anxiety and rage are appreciated. THANKS!!
cobbiemommy Posted September 7, 2011 Report Posted September 7, 2011 My son is experiencing the same thing, the rage and anger. If you look at him wrong, he snaps your head off. LLMD will be calling me in the morning to discuss what to do next. He is drinking tons of water, but we had gotten away from the epsom salts baths, so that will become a daily thing again. Lot of good ideas, here!
