skin peeling off feet

Has anyone dealt with this before? My son has huge chunks of skin peeling off the bottoms of his feet and between his toes. Is it possibly related to PANDAS or something I should be concerned about?

Hmmm, seems to me like this can happen w/ scarlet fever?

This happens with Scarlet Fever, but it happens on the hands as well.

 

On a non-PANDAS note, with summer being here, this happens ALOT with both of my kids just from the increased water activities, sweaty shoes, etc...

My 10years old PANDASson suffers from skin peeling as you describe it, every time he has been exposed to strep.

The doctors have told me that the skin peeling and PANDAS is "somehow related ... but I am not to worry". Haha :-(

Funny. I just heard back from my son's doctor and she said the same thing, that is was because of a recent strep exposure and not to worry.

Several of my sons & I have had problems with that kind of peeling & I read that people with disorders or difficulties in metabolizing fats will have that. And those of us with the peeling feet are the ones with the most digestive issues so it would seem to make sense. (Of course, it's probably the bugs that are messing up our fat metabolism in the first place)

This reply could be totally unrelated, BUT my MIL has an MSG allergy and she had peeling of the feet and hands for several months.

It's so interesting how so many of us see these odd symptoms. My five-year-old son had massively peeling feet for a week or so... I googled it and saw that there could be a connection to strep/scarlet fever and immediately thought my Pandas son must be having some sort of strep-related reaction... so I take him to the Dr... they asked me if he wore socks at night (he usually did)... they recommended stopping that and given that his strep test was negative (and there were no other symptoms), just told me to keep an eye on it and come back if it kept up. Stopped the socks at night and it immediately went away... go figure. So even though this didn't turn out to be a big issue for us, it still has me wondering what it is about our PANDAS kids that they all get these mysterious symptoms (e.g. even if it wasn't indicative of a bigger problem this time, is it something about their immune system, gut health, etc... that leaves our kids prone to all sorts of weird issues?). As a baby, my son had ecxema, lots of heat rashes... he also has mild asthma (which is getting better as he gets older). My four-year old son who also wore socks at night, gets strep a lot too (and has asthma) but does not have PANDAS, does not have skin issues, or peeling feet etc.

 

But yes- the peeling feet did worry me at first!
