Dr prescribed Tindamax 500mg 1/2 tablet twice a day. My DD is 11 @ 143 pds. I'm having panic attacks cause the pharmacy was having problems with our script as it ws. Anyone on 500mg a day around 140pds? just want to make sure this is the right amount....

My soon to be 10 year old (60lbs?) takes 500mg daily on weekends. 250mg am/pm for 2 days.

Thank you so much! I was worried it was too much lol I feel so much better just hearing that, now if the panic woud just stop... our script don't even say am/pm so was going to ask that too... my pharmacy sucks! They were suppose to give her the 250 mg instead they gaver her the 500mg to cut in half and well my child already has big time issues and told the doc that she would not take the pills if they were big... so even when i go to cut these they are still going to be bigger than she is expecting. Oh the joys of Pandas/Lyme :wacko:

My 115 lb dd takes 250mg twice a day two consecutive days per week. The pharmacy can order the correct ones and will usually have them the next day. If you already brought them home, it's too late for this script, but let them know for the next one, you want the 250mg. Unfortunately, your dd will likely get pretty good at swallowing pills before this is all through. :( My dd used to really struggle with it, but now she can swallow handfuls at a time.

If the doctor wrote the script then I would call and request to have a new one faxed over to the pharmacy. If the pharmacy made the change, then I would tell them you will have your child take it until they get the correct size pills in. They should switch it without any additional cost. I don't like to mess around because my dd had difficulty swallowing last year which led to a refusal of taking meds. She can now swallow pills again but I still ask for the small size. Good luck...I hope she takes it.

btw- is it daily?

I did'nt know they were large until we got home. I just assumed because that is what the doc said they would be. I called the office and at first they just said that the pharmacy already called them to get the info on how to take it. I told them that was not the problem but the size of the pills and was worried if the dosage was correct. She sounded like I was an alien and pretty dumb. But she did call the pharmacy and told them that from now on they had to be the little ones. So, no one had answered my ? of whether or not we had the right dosaged.

She will only take it two days a week. I'm still debating which two days.

She will be on that, biaxin and amox/clav

Ok...that's good. I don't recall too many children being on it daily. We started with Sat/Sun, but now do it Friday evening - Sun morning.

3 days? how long did you do 2 days?

Has that helped with the herxing? Or so that he is in better shape for school on Monday? Just curious, I'll probably be asking questions till the end of time.

Exactly...better shape for school in the morning (though I still have to drag her out of the bed  ).

My dd's llmd said to first start on Sat/Sun morning to watch for any reaction.

Thanks for the info. My DD does homebound schooling, and I watch my grandbaby on the weekend... so I'm thinking maybe start with Monday and Tuesdays in hopes that weekends will be a little better around here. Again, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

I am thinking of foregoing the tindamax this weekend - just too much OCD the last 2 weeks, we are going crazy. I guess I don't expect much to change since she hasn't had a dose since last Sun AM and the week was our worst in a very very long time. Dr. J's office called Thurs and promised to get back to me, but hasn't yet. Any opinions on this? I just want to see if she can get some relief. Also we have had to cut back to 12 bentonite clay pills a day from 20 because she has diarrhea constantly since starting Vancomycin and need to get more probiotics in her, especially at night. She's on vanco, bactrim, zith, and tindamax.

On the bright side, she had violin state competition today, and scored 27 of 28 - somehow she can manage around other people, thank God! On the other hand, she carried her backpack out to the car in her teeth. Can't touch it!

We give Tindamax Tues, Wed, Thurs, just so the weekends could be better and that has worked well. I knew DD could make it through the school day but I worried more about home life on weekends.
