JuliaFaith Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 DS keeps having mold showing up in ART testing. We did the ERMI testing and it was high for mold. Have been cleaning house top to bottom to get rid of any cross-contamination that may have occurred when mold was removed from our house in prior years. It just occurred to me yesterday that we have a container that we put fruit/vege scraps in for the compost pile. It gets pretty moldy if it does not get emptied on a regular basis. We open/close it all day adding new waste. Wondering if this could be our main mold problem? Cannot believe we missed something so obvious!
MichaelTampa Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Perhaps. Hard to think that would be the big main problem, but really I am way far from an expert on that topic. We have a similar situation with our compost that I've been eyeing suspiciously and don't know what to do with. We keep compost in a big container, uncovered, but in our refrigerator, before emptying periodically when full into the backyard. It does grow lots of weird looking things, presumably some is mold or fungus, but what do I know. We are still addressing obvious mold-related items before doing testing, things we will want to do regardless of any ART of home air testing results. I imagine that will be something we leave as is until we do the testing, just because I don't see an easy answer. We started out just keeping it on the counter, tried covered and uncovered if I remember right, and we always got ants.
Familyof5 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I would say it definately could be adding to your problem. If you or your family have become "hypersensitive" to mold then once the major culprit is removed you will still have symptoms from even just tiny amounts of mold. So, I would believe that if you removed your major mold problem some time ago, there may still be lingering mold areas throughout your house that are causing problems. If your entire house is contaminated it is likely being spread throughout the house via the duct work. Make sure you clean the ducts. Clean the air handlers themselves too (we found cardboard left inside the heating unit/air handler since original installation with mold growing on them). Also, if you have dehumidifiers attached to your handlers---remove them. They are breeding grounds for bacteria that just gets blown through the entire house. Good luck!!!!!!
JuliaFaith Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 We also found sound both with 2 feet of the compost can that was along the edge of the countertops. Also, a bit on the floor as well. This is all within 10 feet of our air-intake. We are cleaning and replacing carpets, counters, & floors right now so will keep the vege waste in the sealed compost box outside from now on. This is such a long, expensive process! Found yellow spots on the drywall under the stairs but not sure what it is. They are barely visible but will replace just in case. After all this will re-test and determine if we can stay in house. DS blood work results should be available in a couple of weeks as well. His energy was sky-high until today. Still doing MACRON spray and added Quintessense-Viressence-Grapefruit-Seed Extract cocktail to his protocol again 2 days ago. This always gets him flaring (do not have artemisin in it this time around). Cannot remember what these are for? Thank you MichaelTampa & Familyof5 for your input!
