Kbossman1 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Hi to the Lyme forum....I'm kind of new to this one....usually hanging out in the Pandas forum. I'm posting my dd's western blot results from Igenex. Yes, I'm going to find an LLMD, but until we can get into one....I thought I would see if anyone here who has been researching this for a while has any wisdom or insight to add. She is positive by Igenex and CDC standards. What my question is......what do the + signs mean when there is more than 1 of them? Currently she is taking Zithromax and Omnicef once a day. Like I said, next stop will be LLMD, but I don't know how long it will take to get in? Thanks for any info! Nice to meet you here =) IgM Results 18 kDa - 22 kDa - **23-25 kDa ++ 28 kDa - 30 kDa - **31 kDa +++ **34 kDa - **41 kDa + 45 kDa + 58 kDa - 66 kDa - 73 kDa - **83-93 kDa - IgG Results 18 kDa - 22 kDa - **23-25 kDa - 28 kDa - 30 kDa + **31 kDa + **34 kDa IND **39 kDa - **41 kDa ++ 45 kDa + 58 kDa + 66 kDa - 73 kDa - **83-93 kDa -
MichaelTampa Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 They are reading this as bands of color on a paper. When there is one plus, that means the band of color appeared and was "so thick". Double plus means it was twice as thick, three starts three times as thick, and so on. IND means that it looked like something was there, more than nothing, but less than what they defined as one plus. This is a measure of how many antibodies they found, so more pluses means more antibodies going on, your dd is actually making substantial antibodies, more than a lot of people are by the time they get to taking this test. It is the very very sick who test negative because they are not making enough antibodies to even show up as IND or one plus.

Band 31 doesnt show up for a year so having 3 pluses next to 31 means there were a lot of 31 antibodies. This means that your child has probably had lyme at least a year. These results will help with insurance coverage b/c most patients are not CDC positive but still have lyme. That's the good news. That and the fact that you finally have some answers which is half the battle. Coinfections are so common that you almost never find a patient with just lyme so keep that in mind. I would watch Under our Skin, the movie, and read Cure Unknown by Pamela Weintraub to help you become a lyme expert fast. I would call a number of llmds if you have trouble getting an appointment quickly. Good luck!
sf_mom Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Band 45 often means Ehrlichiosis is involved too. Its a co-infection. Once you settle on LLMD you'll need to investigate those further. She does appear to be immune healthy... Lots and lots of antibodies. I sure hope that correlates into her ability to fight LD well. -Wendy
