sf_mom Posted April 27, 2011 Report Posted April 27, 2011 (edited) I am no expert on this because I tend to stick with what is working. BUT, with my limited understanding from our Nutritionist toxins want to be detoxified through liver and when its overloaded it sends those toxins back out into blood stream and into other organs for processing. These toxins then get stored up in other organs until it can be dumped and processed through liver. If you keep the liver functioning properly by helping it to eliminate toxins from bile, the toxins then get downloaded from the rest of the body into liver and overall toxins load comes down. Theoretically, a bile binder is all you would need per our Nutritionist. I hedge my bets with all the other stuff our LLMD recommends which includes the Burbur, Chlorella and Mundipur which focuses on drawing out toxins from the other organs. I am sure others can add to this perspective. -Wendy Edited April 27, 2011 by SF Mom
sptcmom Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 laure- praying this brings relief! I'm on zith 500mg daily and managed to get a sinus infection. It's now day eight and not letting up...so off to the doctors tomorrow. I was kind of shocked the zith wouldn't take care of it. I'll wait two days and probably switch to Augmentin -- what works in my case. Is Augmnetin one of the abx your daughter is taking? Anyway, thinking of you & your daughter!! Research shows that Zith actually DELAYS the resolution of a sinus infection. Can be googled or on Pubmed too Im sure. Just the chemical structure of Zith. Augmentin works becuse it is more specific for upper respiratory infections which would incl sinuses.I usually add on augmentin when DS gets a sinus infection and it resolves in a couple days.

Especially lymphatic drainage areas like the underarms and the soles of the foot. Foot detox if done correctly works very well. Detox patches (autism forums have great info on these), Toxaway detox bath and Biopure has a detox deodorant type stick which we use for DS and I daily before bedtime. For the axillary area its recommnded a natural deodorant with cilantro formula to help keep lymphatic flowing and suck up toxins with the cilantro. I use Toms of Maine one. Also pays to keep in mind that liver and gall bladder usually go hand in hand for production of bile etc. GB detox needs to be addressed. Actually cilantro tincture 10 drops in warm water 10 mins before meals b.i.d. alog with dandelion extract similar dosage but with food and the chlorella all help GB plus liver detox pathways. add glutathione to that mix and you will resolve any genetic polymorhisms in liver detox pathways usually phase two is problematic in Lyme patients. sptcmom Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Its always very sad to hear that steroids have become the last resort for any child with lyme. Its hearbreaking also to hear a physician prescribe or consider it. I believe Dr B is a wonderfully caring doctor who wants to help but he is still learning to be Lyme literate I feel. I agree with Wendy here that holistic remedies has a huge role to play right from the start. Trying to play catchup when things go wrong will help but takes longer. Notatum Q. spray is one piece of the puzzle albeit an imp one for prohylaxis which has to be done diligently daily in the beginning. Actually I would say before bedtime in the beginning to help the body build it up homeopathically and mupirocin nose oint. in the AM before school. The main problem I intuitively feel for your child other than cycling is toxin buildup. It can be excrutiating for the body to handle without adequate detox AND drainage support. Sometimes stopping all meds, all antimicrobials that is and focusing on heavy detox and Drain is the key and works wonders on all herx type symptoms.A good couple weekends of peeing and sweating them out all day would be a tremendous help to that little body. Be happy to discuss if you pm me. Jodie

adkmom Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 (edited) Laura, Sorry to hear you're having troubles again! Our cases are so similar sometimes. Dr. B suspected Colin had sinus infection several weeks ago (he was pulling at his eyes, throat clearing - now we know from post-nasal drip and his behavioral symptoms had increased). Based on those symptoms, Dr. B put him on 4 day steroid to treat (And he said he spoke with Dr. J about this and got his approval). By day 2, his symptoms had disappeared. So, Dr. B's hunch was right. He said when there's so much inflammation from a sinus infection, the antibiotics won't do anything because there's no way to drain. (I never knew this before.) Hope she starts feeling better. darlene Edited April 28, 2011 by adkmom

I have been out of town last 3 days, but my husband says she is doing a little better tonight. Does anyone here know if the dosage for the steroids is an absolute? Because Dr. B was very precise that 3 pills once a day is what we should do (first thing with breakfast) although we have had an easier time in the past with one pill 3 x a day. Why does it matter?
