philamom Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Can I get info. on the blood test? Can it be done through Quest?
philamom Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 You may already know this, but C3a and C4a are thought to be early markers of acute lyme. Here's a paper by Shoemaker. http://www.survivingmold.com /docs/Resources/Shoemaker%20Papers/Lyme_acute_C4a_1_08_glovsky.pdf Is this the same as C3D Circulating Immune Complexes (C3D Immune Complex)?
justinekno Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 (edited) The majority of them have to be done through Labcorp. If you go on Dr. S' site, there is a section under the diagnostic tests which lists which tests and which lab. Can I get info. on the blood test? Can it be done through Quest? JuliaFaith Posted April 25, 2011 Author Report Posted April 25, 2011 Do you pay for the test when you order the kit or when you send it back? Paid for the test with credit card when I ordered test but was not put on card until results sent via email. ($290)

No - not the same. All 3 are immune complexes (part of the compliment system that's pat of the innate immune system). But I think they are different proteins and are activated by different processes. I read articles that refer to C3a and C4a as different "entities" and never even mention C3d. I usually find references to RA when I google C3d. But no matter what I google, my eyes glaze over after 1 or 2 sentences. We saw the LLMD for DD today and left with a lab req. to test all three of these complexes (her C3d went from 25 to 47 to 94 over the past year - above 8 is high). I'm sure I'll be doing more googling when we get the results.
JuliaFaith Posted April 25, 2011 Author Report Posted April 25, 2011 (edited) Can I get info. on the blood test? Can it be done through Quest? Blood draw today consisted of: C3a, C4a (both lyme markers as well), TGF Beta 1, MSH, VIP, TSH, Free T3, Free T4. We had to go to a GOOD LABCORP to get all of these tests done except for the C3a & C4a which doctor had them sent to a Jewish lab at the last minute (noticed that Dr. Shoemaker uses the same lab for these tests as well). Will see if I can find the complete name of the Jewish lab in the book, however, LABCORP seemed to be very familiar with the lab as well and were forwarding blood samples to them. philamom Posted April 25, 2011 Report Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks for all the info. Only the C3D was done on my daughter. I'll inquire about the others.

justinekno Posted July 14, 2011 Report Posted July 14, 2011 I have been looking for information on MARCONS but don't see anything other than what is in the book. Has anyone read of any other research? I only see stuff on MRSA. The MARCONS are also discussed in Dr. Shoemaker's book. It stands for "multiple antibiotic resistant coag neg staph (MARCONS)."
JuliaFaith Posted July 14, 2011 Author Report Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) I have been looking for information on MARCONS but don't see anything other than what is in the book. Has anyone read of any other research? I only see stuff on MRSA. All I can tell you is that Dr. S's new book was published in 2010 and my ds dr. said that the info. that we got from him would not have been known a year ago. Treatment/diagnosis would have been much longer/harder. She also said that having the T&A would help speed up recovery as well. Also, the ENT with instructions "test for MARCoNS, coagulase negative staph, and mold growth" from my ds dr. seemed to make sense to her and the ENT ordered the tests. The tests were done at 2 different hospitals with results on ENT's letterhead. We were referred to the ENT by son's dr. This cutting-edge medical stuff is difficult to understand. Hope this helps.
