laure Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Student-athlete of mine has been fatigued for 2 years, very very low heart rate (under 30) and has been hospitalized for this for 5 days in high school, but docs never found anything specific. She goes to bed at 8:30 every night (college student!) and has frequent pain in her knees. Despite all this, she is a fine athlete and when she isn't sick, performs very well. But then some illness or pain takes her down and she is out for awhile. She has had blood tests to rule out iron deficiency and malnutrition, and almost everything else. To me it screams lyme, and she's from NJ, but her doc at home won't run Igenex b/c he feels she has been on enough abx already in her young life, and it isn't proven as a treatment anyway. I told her mom there are alternative treatments out there, and she should at the very least know if she has it or not so she can pursue these and also have some explanation for all of this. Her mom would get Igenex, but needs a doc to issue script for it, and it isn't happening in our college town. If anyone knows of a good LLMD she could get to sort of soon in Bernardsville, NJ, I will try to persuade them to go that route. Thanks!
LNN Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 You should contact DCmom - she's in that general area. Also, unless the student is from the area, she can also look for an LLMD in her home town area. With summer coming, that might work just as well for her. You might also contact the NJ lyme group - they are quite active and might even be able to suggest an open minded general doc just to order Igenex.
philamom Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 laure- I'll pm you the name of an llmd that is located in NJ (not sure where Bernardsville is though). Also, any doctor can order the Igenex...family, chiropractor, DAN, exc.
laure Posted March 28, 2011 Author Report Posted March 28, 2011 Bernardsville NJ is her hometown. Too complicated to get it done at school (rural area).
dcmom Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Dr Andrea Gaito in Basking Ridge, NJ is an ILADs doc. I have no personal experience with her. This is the next town to Bernardsville.
sf_mom Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Andrea Gaito spoke at this last years ILADS conference and you can purchase her talk regarding Lyme from the website. She is a rheumatologist. She has done some fairly unique ways of testing for Lyme by pulling fluids from the knee joint, etc. I do not know of anyone seeing her but from her talk she extremely knowledgeable. She would be a great choice. Edited March 29, 2011 by SF Mom
sptcmom Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Im going to be the bad guy and suggest you please read the reviews on Dr Gaito before making any appointments. I am in NJ and I know I can't say much more except do your research and read reviews.

sf_mom Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Disregard above... I am sure Philamom and Sptcmom have a better perspective as they are local to Dr.
