lyme_mom Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 I have an adult relative who is extremely ill due to lyme/coinfections, heavy metals, gut issues, etc. She is not able to manage her own treatment and in fact undermines her own treatment by not taking her meds, etc. Has anyone heard of an inpatient program that is somewhat holistic that could give her an allergen free diet, allow her to take antibiotics and probiotics and to detox. She has been hospitalized for depression but they do absolutely nothing to get her well in the psyche ward and they were adamantly opposed to her being treated for lyme disease. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Patty
MichaelTampa Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 Don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I know of one person who had tried many things and was going downhill, and credits the Hansa Center for healing lyme and saving his life. I believe it is run by Dr. Jernigan. They do make some herbals, too, and honestly, while good for me, haven't been as good as some of the other herbals I have tried. But as an inpatient, there is more than just the herbals, for sure. hansacenter.com
dabel Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 I have been looking for something like this too. I know they are working on one in the Green Bay, WI area and also in Iowa. So far, there are not many options out there from what I understand. I have thought about putting my son inpatient (psyche) for the same reasons you mentioned but hesitate to do so for the reason you mentioned too! It is so frustrating! If they had cancer we would not be in this situation!
lyme_mom Posted February 19, 2011 Author Report Posted February 19, 2011 Michael thanks for the name-I will check into it. Dabel I agree -if this were cancer it would be a whole different story. Of course insurance won't pay for holistic cancer treatment :-( either. The psychiatric symptoms are the worst because it interferes with the patient being able to stay on the treatmen plan. Many kids don't want to take their mess either and that makes it even scarier.
matis_mom Posted February 19, 2011 Report Posted February 19, 2011 I have a very dear friend who has stage 4 cancer and decided to go natural (after one round of chemo, she felt the treatment was going to kill her sooner than the disease!) She and her wonderful family put all into trying to follow the Gerson protocol. Last month she travelled to Mexico where they have a clinic and they do all the cooking, detoxing, infusions, etc. My friend and her husband where very please with the whole experience. I don't know what your relative's situation is, but maybe this is an alternative? I can get more specific info if you need it.

kmom Posted February 21, 2011 Report Posted February 21, 2011 While trying to eat cleaner, organic, etc. to help my family boost our immune systems due to chronic Lyme, we stumbled across the Gerson method and it looks very promising. I hope I never have to make a decision whether to go w/ Western Medicine's cancer treatment protocol or the Gerson method but I'd definitely consider the Gerson method. Our family's hope is that by going as organic as we can and following some other Gerson ideas, we won't ever have to deal with Cancer but one never knows. If by chance you are a member of Netflix, you can view some documentaries for free. Just search The Gerson Method and some of the movies will pop up. They are really interesting. (Off hand I think one is called Food Matters and another might be called The Gerson Method.) Some of the movies go into high levels of mercury from dental amalgams and how to remove them safely w/ a biological dentist, food chemicals, flouride, etc. I realize this is a bit off topic from Lyme but I believe it is huge in the big picture of health. And this is a whole new world for me. I was never organic. I never saw the value...till we got sick. Now my kids and I are using natural methods to detox metals from our system. Our dr. believes it's crucial for Lyme treatment, heart health and overall health (if you have higher than normal levels).

Our dr. believes it's crucial for Lyme treatment, heart health and overall health (if you have higher than normal levels). Our llmd believes the same thing. I agree with all that you said. I have high levels of mercury according to a recent urine challenge from Doctor's Data. I am no longer sick (as far as I know :-) knock on wood). My llmd wants me to detox before the mercury causes problems. I have been drinking bentonite for months and my levels were still in the 90 percentile. I just started DMPS pushes. I alternate with a DMPS push one week and an IV Meyers cocktail vitamin/minerals the other week to replenish vitamins and minerals I lose with the DMPS. I should be taking chlorella but it really makes me gag. Bentonite and Pectasol (a detox made from apple pectin) is much more palatable. We are planning to order an infrared sauna so that we can all detox more. I am sure my kids also have high levels of metals due to them having had silver fillings unfortunately. By the time I learned about biological dentistry a number of us had had our fillings removed by a regular dentist. My middle son was lucky that he got his removed by the biological dentist.
pixiesmommy Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 I'll have to look into the Gerson stuff- sounds interesting. I'm a firm believer in diet helping, as you can see from my blog One of the first things our first LLMD told me to do was get the mercury out of my mouth. I have 9 definite mercury/silver fillings and several other white ones that are questionable. I was also just told by a biological dentist that the pain in my jaw is not TMJ as I suspected but strep infection in the BONE. Niiiiice. I'll be having fully sedated oral surgery soon and then start removing amalgams and detoxing mercury. I have a blue line around my lips from mercury toxicity and have had 2 break (one during each pregnancy- how convenient.)
lyme_mom Posted February 22, 2011 Author Report Posted February 22, 2011 Apparently the first born child gets the motherload (appropriate word for it :-) of the mother's mercury. You are lucky you didn't get these fillings drilled out by a regular dentist as I did. I got very sick within a month of it. My llmd was horrified.

Oddly enough, my first born is fine, it's my second that has PANDAS, but I bet I was pregnant with him when some of my fillings had to be taken out and redone... yikes! (no, it was not properly done! ) I still have some to do, but I'm concerned about the cost... We are having to replace our water treatment system, and that's going to take a big chunk of change. But I know I need to do the teeth. Can someone give me a very ball-park idea of how much we are talking about here??? Is it $1K, 5K, 10K??? Pixiesmmommy, so sorry for all you are dealing with! It's amazing how it's all inter-related, to the point where you are running around in circles and don't know what to deal with first!!! We knew have suspected water issues for a while, and finally we are doing something about it, but it seems it's always something else, something more that needs to be done. We've been dealing with this for two years now, and it's become our "new normal"... I don't even visualize that day when this is all behind us any more. I'm just dealing with things as they come, and ready to keep doing this for as long as it takes.
pixiesmommy Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 My first is definitely worse off than my 3 yr old, though we suspect PANDAS/Lyme for her as well. I don't know the cost yet. I'm sure it won't be cheap! We're looking at a whole-house water filter too. I have a name for one that gets fluoride out too, but haven't done research on it yet. Right now, we use a Berkey w/fluoride filter for our drinking water, but all our other water smells like pool water- so toxic. Ugh. Yes, it is all inter-related. Some day I am going to post about all the crazy "coincidental" things, but it may end up being a novel. I think we have officially de-railed this thread. Sorry!!!

I'm just dealing with things as they come, and ready to keep doing this for as long as it takes. It depends on the number of fillings. My son had four small fillings removed by a biological dentist and it cost 900 something. Insurance reimbursed 700 something. Adults cost more but they can usually document that the fillings needed to come out and you can get some reimbursement if dental insurance is good. Somethings are not covered-being desensitized to mercury beforehand and any jaw bone cavitation work. Btw pm me if u want about this because my biological dentist does not do oral surgery to get rid of jaw bone infections. He uses ozone injections which is easier and cheaper. It worked well for me.
