does anyone know if yeast could cause racing thoughts? and sever agitation, like making the kid want to run outside at all hours of the night. so many drugs were tried on this girl and nothing helped. it just occurred to me that perhaps yeast was causing this??? the doctor has her on azith. and wants us to start, nystatin, and probiotic. do either of these help with yeast?

Both nystantin and probiotics help with yeast. But, if the yeast is outside of the digestive tract, diflucan is probably needed. You have a girl, right? Is she messing w/ her privates? (sorry for being graphic, but one of the nice things about girls is its easier to see if they've got yeast outside of the gut)

I give diflucan whenever my daughter seems "itchy" down there and it helps quickly- though we usually have a difficult day following because (I think) die off.

Peggy has already answered your main questions, so I'll just add that I've kept my DD11 on probiotics for most of the time since PANDAS began. She was off antibiotics for a few short months after her T & A in August 2009 and I did pull it after a few months of improvement, only to put her right back on it when she caught strep again in spring 2010. I also give her plain, non-fat yogurt (with a little fruit & wheat germ) and Kefir whenever I can get her to take it.

I asked about yeast when we were in the ER yesterday & was told that she looks too good to have yeast issues.

They have tried dapakote,seroquel, gabapentin, trileptal, lamictal, luvox, celexa, and they can not stop the racing brain and racing thoughts..now azith. and it seems to help a little. i believe the thoughts get too much and make her crazy and she etihg wants to run in the street or she ransacks the cabinets or she begs for the neck vibratrator that we have lying around so she can use it on her privates. whatever happens to her or makes her brain race aggitates her to no end. i am thinkging it may be yeast. we start the probiotic and nystatin soon. man, i hope that helps.

Back in 1998, Tenex was a wonder drug for my son and he was later switched to risperdal. It really helped my son's impulsive behavior and racing brain. He would crave sugar to feed that racing brain.

No. I discontinued risperdal in Jan when he went into the hospital to change seizure meds and then restarted it again and stopped it again. In June, we went to Dr B and started treating PANDAS for the first time.

 

The Tenex was so easy to see a change. I gave him a pill in the evening and then another in the morning. He went to school a changed child but he would start to have trouble around 2pm again. There is a time release or patch version available now.

using the neck vibrator on her privates is very suspect of yeast. every time my 6yo gets yeast he "plays" with his privates and wants to play "doctor" with his friends!! This is very common. Its' not b/c they itch, it's b/c the yeast makes them want to stimulate themselves (weird, I know).

 

Also, someone mentioned that their child wanted to feed their racing brain with sugar. When kids have yeast (or bacteria) their bodies crave sweets to "feed" the yeast. This is another telltale symptom with my boys. Round the clock snacking, even in the middle of the night. Another sign is night-waking and can't fall back to sleep. My boys get very silly like they are drunk and hyper. They have been tested for yeast, the behaviors always correlate. I don't even have to test anymore...

Wilma - It is possible that your daughter either does not have PANDAS or that she has PANDAS along with another condition. A good PANDAS doc will help you to sort that out. In the meantime, though - whether she has PANDAS or not - I believe you said earlier that she does have sinus issues and she is on medication for that which can cause a disturbance in yeast... so those things need to be addressed. Many people compare this to peeling an onion. We keep peeling off the layers trying to get to the core. Each infection is another layer.

We don't know what the core will look like.

yes, the mri showed a sinus infection. no sniffles etc. though. she is pretty wild and aggressive right now. she is on 250mg. of azith. and 25mg. seroguel. i am not sure what is making her so wild. i guess i will post and see if any kids get wild and aggressive with the azith.

I just will add $.02 -- my child was VERY similar in description to waht you describe adn what browneyesmom is dealing with and Risperdal was literaly a GODSEND for her. Please try it. it comes in a liquid that you can hide in a drink or food if necessary we did for over 7 months! and it worked wonderfully. we still have problems (and it broguht its own problems (weight gain) but the raging, hyperactivity and others thigns decreased tremednously. It got us toa point where we coudl get her to do one month prednisone which helped SOO much. long way to go still- but give Risperdal a try maybe-- oh we did Seroquel as well & it did not help really.

Dr B told me they are finding out that strep hides in the sinus cavities. The child will test neg for strep. This hidden strep will keep upsetting the immune system and the child will keep getting worse (my words not Dr B's). I'm pretty sure this is what happened to my son.

 

You need to address this sinus problem: ENT, Dr B or someone else.
