Article on PANDAS & Autism from UK

Recommended Posts

This is an interesting single-case report from the UK on a child diagnosed with ASD & PANDAS. Some of the approaches are different than those we typically discuss here. I don't know if it was posted previously. It is from 2009

GREAT find Kim--thank you. (Where do you find these?!)

Dr Cosford, who I believe is in Australia, is pulling the threads together--

this is extremely interesting.

Now we need collaboration between those able to substantiate and "flesh-out" the reality of solving the issue of neuropsych/autoimmune.

Great article.

Thanks - Interesting article. The case study and info in this article makes me think so much of my son - frequent infections (ear, sinus, etc) at a young age, the sudden biting and other aggressiveness, improvement with GFCF diet but not full improvement and more. This almost seems like it brings up more questions than answers for treatment for us! But I guess I just keep plugging away at it and trying to get the questions answered!

Hi Kim,

Dr Robyn Cosford is the Australian expert on PANDAS (and is very interested in chronic fatigue also, I believe.)

If you check the bibliography of that article you'll find she is collaborating with others in Australia, including the biomed practice we attend with our ds.

Thanks for that info. Aussiemum--

Again, this article is very exciting to me as she is pulling together threads which seem to be interconnected, and this certainly casts the connections "up" for more speculation and (hopefully) further investigation--cross oceans. (I sincerely hope our understanding of the root cause of ASDs is close.)

"I sincerely hope our understanding of the root cause of ASDs is close."

Hi T.Mom,

I so echo that sentiment! I'm convinced that there's a broader spectrum and ASD is one of the conditions on it.

And I'm so-o-o-o grateful there are doctors and researchers across the globe who are sticking their professional necks out for our kids!

Cheers!

Very interesting. .. . . .so . . ..how do you get rid of biofilms?

The article says that biofilms are not treatable with antibiotic, but I tested postive for "biofilm" in my nasal passages (test was not pretty as the doctor stuck a swab up my nose; I swear he hit my brain). I can't remember exactly what the name of the test was, but I think it was "anti-negative staff infection" of some sort. I was treated with about a month's dosage of a very strong anti-biotic and it cleared it out. It was the first time in years that my chronic fatigue began to lift and my health started turning around for me.

Yes! I thought it was interesting that the article had the slant that "antibiotics don't work in chronic sinusitis, therefore we're not going to use any". Perhaps this statement was based on 10 days of Amoxicillin, not longer term-full strength "big guns?"

I really do wonder how if this boy would have done better with more "conventional" (by our standards) PANDAS treatment long term ( long term Azith. and IVIG.)
