Gisille, Did you son react to Bonnie's vitamins supplements as well as the Fish oil. I am wondeing because the supplements have 100mg of lecithin per 10 caps. Can this cause the same reaction as the fish oil with the chlorine? Robin

Gina, In the past I have given my 10 year old 1000mg of the L-carnitine to carm down the constant blinking and after the blinking seems to be subsiding I decrease the amount to 500mg per day. I usually give it in the morning and at lunch time. Several times I gave it at dinner or before bed time and my son had TOO much energy and could not sleep. Vitamin B1 also can help with the eye tics and I Have read some great post on Braintalk about this also. Good luck and thanks for the kind words. I will look into message therapy etc for my son. I Know this tic will pass soon. Its so hard seeing your child go through this. Robin

Daniel, I am interested in the same thing, It has helped with my sons eye blinking in the past but am not sure about the head shoulder thing. I think I may try it again for a week or 2 and see what happens. My sons head shaking is so bad and he really needs some relief. He is beginning to feel sick from the constant shaking!! I will let you know how things go. Robin

Thanks for the kind words. Do you know if the L-Carnitine helps tics in general or is it mainly for the eye tics. Robin.

Chemar and others, My son has been on Bonnie G's Vitamin supplements for 2 years now. He has Tourettes and even on the vitamins still has a few minor tics. He started having severe head shaking 8 days ago and I cannot figure out what has happened. As far as I Know he has not been exposed to anything that would trigger such a episode. If he has been exposed to something would the tics last this long. He has had an increase in tics with colds etc but nothing like this and the increase usually only lasted 2-3 days and then they carm back down to their normal level. Chemar and others with Tourettes do you think this could just be a waxing phase. He is 10 years old and I know there is usually an increase in tics at this age but I thought that the supplements would help keep things mild. I took him off L-carnitine 2 months ago because his eye tics had carmed down and the L-carnitine just seemed to make him a little hyper. ( He also has ADD) Do you all know if the L-Carnitine could help head shaking or is it mainly for eye tics. I have given him more of the Mag/Taurate the last 5 days but its not helping. He also had been taking Lexapro for 3 months for his Anxiety. We tried to take him off the Lexapro and his OCD and anxiety was so bad he would curl up in a ball and cry and refused to leave the house for days. Do you know if this increase in tics would show up after 3 months on Lexapro. He has been off and on it for 1-1/2 years with not noticable increase in tics. I know I need to find a Dr. to help out with this. We have been thru the metal/hair testing several years ago. I am just a wreck. everything seemed to be going so good and now I dont know what to try. Any ideas. Robin

Chemar and others, My son has recently (last 7 days) had a very big increase in his tics. I have been wondering If I should decrease or stop his fish oil. He takes Bonnie G's brand. He has been on it for 2 years with very mild ticcing. After all this time do you all think it is possible to now be causing problems Robin. -
Thamks for the info, I will do a search and see what I can find. Robin

Jennifer, my son has the same reaction to chocolate and molasses. Can you tell me where I can get a list or something like that to find out what food is high in cooper. He has been tested for metals and his copper level was low but your post makes me wonder. Thanks for any suggestion, Robin.

The Treatments that have Helped My Son
Robin O replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Chemar, Does the 5HTP make your son Sleepy. Also when he did take the GABA did that make him sleepy. My son is finally off his Lexapro and seems to be doing pretty good but I am already seeing a little OCD creeping back in and he got anxious over a camping trip a few days ago. I want to start him on the above along with Inosital. Can you lead me to a web page that can help with the amount to give him or if you or anyone else can help that would be great. He is 9 and weighs 77 pounds. He also takes Bonnie's vitamins so I need to take that into consideration when giving him additional Inositol. One more question!! What can of Multi do you give your son. I may take my son off Bonnie's Program only because I am trying to reduce the number of pills he has to take. ( 23 per day!!) I have been searching for a good multi- can you give me some names. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks so much for your help. Robin. -
EFGH, he still has the tic. It comes and goes throughout the day. I notice it more when he is tired. He is having several tics right now. My son ususally has 2-3 tics going on at the same time. I guess it just the nature of TS. Robin.

Have any of you heard of this before? Check out this site. www.evenbetternow.com click on the ADD, autism link and you will find alot of information concerning supplements and detoxing through clay baths. I know several of us have kids with heavy metal issues. My son tested hight for aluminum. We used hair analysis for him. It also gives a link to a Dr. that will send you a kit for an high analysis and send back a report with supplement recommendations. I wanted to get other opinions about this site. I may order the Clay for my husband to try. He also has TS and tested high for metal. Let me know what you all think. Robin

Hi, Thanks for the responses, I get used to my son's usual tics and when he starts something new sometimes I wonder about them. Thankfully this tic does not seem to bother my son. I hope it stays this way!! Thanks again, Robin.

My son has started shaking his head as if he is saying "No" I noticed this a few weeks ago and did not get very concerned because it was very slight and it seemed to go away in a few days. Lately he has been shaking his head alot. I was just wondering if you guys are familiar with this type of tic. My son says he feels like he needs to shake his head but it seems more like an involuntary movement then a tic. Robin

Susanna, my son always tics more when he has been swimming in a pool with chlorine. Its a big increase when its an indoor pool. His tics increased alot 2 weeks ago when we were on vacation and swimming in pools alot. My son also has an increase when he eats nuts. His response to nuts can sometimes be delayed by 3-4 days. Anyway I hope this helps. Robin

Chemar, that is exactly what I plan on giving him this summer. He has a a bit of OCD also and I hope the 5HTP helps this also. THanks, Robin

EFGH, my son always tics more when he is reading. Even when he is going through a waning period and has hardly any tics he will always tic when he reads. I read somewhere that this is very common. Robin
