Hi all, For those who have hepa filters , are these portable filters that you can carry from one room to another or is it fixed at the a/c vent ? When I read posts about hepa filters in bedrooms only, I am assuming that it is a portable one. Am I right ? Please chime in. If anyone has a preferred brand, please let me know that too. Thanks, Nan

BARGE... ghee receipe. Hi Tami, here is the recipe.. 1. Use organic unsalted sweet butter sticks. 2. Melt the ghee in a pan (preferably not non-stick for health reasons). Keep the flame in medium setting. 3. Foam will begin to form on top and you will hear a lot of sputtering noise. 4. When the sputtering noise settles down and is reduced to almost nothing, it is time to take the pan from the flame. the liquid butter below the foam will be clear. This is the tricky part as leaving in in for too long may cause the ghee to be burnt. 5. Keep the pan out for 5-10 mins. 6. Using a strainer . strain the liquid into a container (preferrably not plastic as the liquid will still be hot and may induce plastic leaching). 7. Check back the container the next day (or after 12 hours). The ghee should have solidified and be golden in color. Hope this helps. -Nan

Hi Jasminky, Thank you for your update. I am really excited for you and also about the product. Hope you don't mind me asking a few questions. Do you see a significant reduction in the tics ? My daughter does not have any problems with her mood, only her tics and some anxiety issues. Just wondering if she will be a candidate for intrakid. I will look forward to your next weekly update. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to give us the updates. -Nan

Hi, Thank you for updating us. Hope this one works out for you and your daughter. My daughter is still on natural calm. I do see a reduction in her tics. The tics have become milder since Monday. This morning, she complained of a sore throat and guess what ?? It is strep. She is on zithromax now. I do have a question for you. Do you know if Intrakid has helped any kids with their tics ? Thanks, Nan

Hi Ruby23, Welcome to the group. You will find a lot of help and support thru this forum. It has definitely been a great resource for me. I like you, am a newbie to this board. My daughter presents eye tics and twitching. I have been giving her some magnesium in the form of a supplement called "Natural calm". There is also a kids version of this called Kids calm. I chose natural calm as it had no other flavor (these days I am suspicious of even natural flavorings). In our case, it does seem to help a little. It has been only 10 days since we started her on the supplement; so we will see. We are also scheduled for an appt with the environmental physician. Hopefully, it will answer our questions about the root cause of her tics. -Nan

Caryn, Thank you for your detailed message. Any recommendations for a good brand of b complex and zinc that a 6.5 year old can take ? I looked at some zinc supplements and it had some other things like Vitamin c (the unbuffered form) , magnesium stearate or something like that. Please let me know if you like a particular brand. Thanks, Nan

Hi all, Sorry about the multiple questions on magnesium, but I wanted to ask ; does magnesium normally cause increase in tics at first before it starts to work ? I have been supplementing my daughter with Natural calm and I was seeing an increase in tics till yesterday. Today is a little more calm. Not sure if it is just wax/wane situation . Thanks, Nan

Thank you for chiming in, Tami. I will keep b complex and zinc in mind. Thanks, Nan

Hi all, I am giving my daughter Natural calm. Do I have to give her any other supplements so that they don't become deficient in the presence of magnesium ? I am not sure if my question is clear; I am trying to figure out what other supplements I have to give while I am giving magnesium to balance stuff out. She is not on any multi vitamin formula. Thanks, Nan

Hi all, I have an appt with an environmental specialist to see what her body is lacking in terms of nutrition/vitamins. Also, we are going to do a blood test to determine food sensitivities and we are going to make the necessary dietary changes. But what can help with the tics caused by anxiety/anticipation/excitement ? When my daughter has any of the above, she starts ticcing badly. She tics even in happy situations like playing with her best friend and laughing with her about a joke etc. So, good excitement also causes her tics. How do I address the behavioral part of this issue ? Thanks, Nan

Hi, I meant to reply to your post , but ended up typing a new post. Please see post above.

I am not sure if I notice any change in her sleep patterns yet. I will watch more closely and for a little more time. Thanks for reassuring me about Natural calm. I will definitely give it a little more time. I am still cleaning up her diet. She does not get any food additives/colorings at home. Only a few at school and at bday parties. I also plan to have her tested extensively. I am hoping all of this will give us some directions. Thanks, Nan

Hi , It has been 5 days since I started giving her the natural calm. I do not see any difference in her tics. I am not sure what this means - whether it does not work for her tics or I have to give it more time ? Also - probably a dumb question - how do I change the "subject line" when I reply to a post ? Thanks, Nan

Hi Wendy, I am using 1/2 tsp of natural calm. I think I will start with that ; see how she does for a few days and then increase dosage if needed to 3/4 tsp. She has been on it for 3 days now . It is still too soon to comment, I think. I will wait for a week to see if there are any changes and post an update. -Nan

Samsmom, Thank you for chiming in with your experience. It is definitely a very valuable input for me to know about negative experiences with the drops. Thanks, Nan

Thanks to everyone who responded - Tami (lurker), Caryn, Patty and Wendy (Jasminky). I started my daughter on Natural calm (1/2 tsp) 2 days ago. I will post again in a few days as to the status of her tics. Thanks, Nan

Carolyn, Thanks for responding. I guess allergy drops are relatively new to the medical field and hence not much experience with them. I will talk more to the physician and figure out a game plan. -Nan

HI all, My daughter has known environmental allergies. So, I am sure her doctor will be talking about desensitization at our appt. I would like to do the drops instead of the shots . The nurse that I talked to seemed to think that shots worked better than drops, but from what I have read on the internet, drops work similar to shots. I would like to hear your thoughts on this. Allergy drops definitely seem more convenient and less traumatizing than shots. My daughter will freak out if I tell her she is going to get a couple or more shots every week !! -Nan

Hi ilovedogs, So sorry about what you are going thru. I am quite new to all this myself, so I really don't have many suggestions. I did want to pass on some cyber hugs and hope you ride thru this rough patch soon. -Nan
