There is light at the end of the tunnel
mommyof2 replied to lynsey's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
wow reading this really hit home with me... My son had such separation anxiety up until about 2 nd grade He cried when i left him almost everyday at preschool and in k-garden i found i could not take him to school...he could not separate but getting on the bus at our house was better... He had a kissing hand i made him in his pocket everyday through 2nd grade and in 3rd kept it in his bookbag incase he needed it. Now he is better at going to school... except for the teasing he gets he enjoys school mary -
Hello I was wondering how often your kids tic. My ds seems to not stop at all...He is contanttly moving and doing one thing or another... I don't thnk we really ever see a wanning period, except when he is sleeping. We just ordered Bonnie's supplements...hoping that helps somewhat. Really don't want to go to perscriptions but we are really at the end of our ropes. He is having a toiugh time in school with peers and teasing, just started to go to the intermediate school and was sepaated in groups from his close friends. He is such a seeet and loving little boy...and willing to try anything he can. Neither myself or my husband familiea have any cases of TS... we both have a member or two that have small ticcing, nothing as disruptive as my sons. We just keep hoping that one day he will outgrow it. We give him a b complex, grape seed extract and kids calm. We are back and forth ont he fish oil or flax seed... not sure if it is helping or not. Thanks mary

Hello all Wanted to share something seems to be working for my son. He was flapping his wrists to the point i was scared he was going to hurt them. I made an appointment for a cranial sacral thereapy treatment (can't get in until 10-14)and told the lady what he was doing and she told me to find the bone at the bottom of his neck that when moves you can feel an indention and massage it, and ask him if it is tender...he said yes and i massaged it a few nights now and not sure if it is coinsidental or not but he barely does it anymore. I also have been working hard to elimate the red40 from him after the experience we had with him eating hot tamoli's and the head really jerking from it. It is amazing what they put that in!!! he is only 10 and reading box labels and be so careful of what he eats...i am proud of him for being concerned. We added acetyl-l-carnitine to his pills. We got the 500 and i open the capsule and put about half in with his kids calm drink each night. He still makes some vocals, mostly in the nose now, the screeching is not too often anymore... not sure if it is the pills or the red40 going away. well just wanted to share this massage tip... Mary

mommyof2 replied to needhelp's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
needhelp Just wondered how your daughter is doing on the tea...how often do you give it to her. I would be interested in trying this with my son. Di you get the tea in a health food store? at the point i would try anything to help son!! Mary -

not an expert but i would go with the age thing... My daughter, with no signs of tics... can get the same way sometimes... stumping off when told something. We went away for the weekend with some friends of ours and her daughter ,3 rd grade, is just like that so stubborn... Will not say sorry when asked to, but later will be all lovey and happy... hoping that is all it is and once she realizes it gets her no where she will go back to her old self mary

ts-PLUS CONTROL (bonnie's) I am thinking of giving this a try...it looks like a good mixture of what I am giving my son only better. I'm trying to figure out something soon. He is starting to get teased in school now. He just moved to the next school, in elementary no one ever laughed at him, but now he says some boys are looking and pointing and laughing and telling others to also. He is not in a group with any of his close friends, so he has to make new friends and this makes it hard. I have to say we went to the beach this past weekend and i stupidy packed for in the car hot tamolis (sp?) wanted something not too messy and he loves them...well when we got to the room, I swear I thought his head was going to fly off that is how hard it was nodding... I know it was excitement and I am sure the red didn't help...I told him NO MORE RED!!! he understood and doesn't complain...the next night the people we were with got out red licorice and he went for it, loves that too.... I said no and he said alll that is right... Glad he understands. I am just worried he is going to end up with wrist problems because he is constantly flicking his wrists... That is the big thing now and the hmmm's he is always saying... Thanks for any input on the ts-plus control... it is expensive but if it works i will be happy to pay Mary

Thank you all for your comments... I did find out he is a chiropractic... if that means anything.. He has done extension research on autism and will be having a seminar and feels it would be a good place for me to be. What about the probotics... is that a good thing to have him on...and for people who use them are they on them for a long period of time or just to get the immune system built up... Thanks for all your kind words... it has been on my mind... and with everything else to deal with the blame is not helpful at all. Mary
-
Well over the weekend I took my son to a health food store for information on what to give him. Here is what the man told me...first he compared him to autism...then he told me that he most likely has the tics because i was an unhealthy person when i gave birth... which i did not feel i was...never drank, smoked and according to my doctor i was fine. I also have another child who does not have tics. Then he told me that a little radiation, like a piece of jewelry giving this off would help him and to sleep on a mud stone which gives off radiation. The only thing i did kind of agree with him was he mentioned probiotics to boost his immune system and that he needs his system flushed out... I was just really sad when i left being told that i am the cause of this... i never heard this before... i know we have it in both our families with his aunts and uncles, myself or my husband do not have them, and i did take blame that way but not that i was unhealthy...did anyone else ever hear this before. thanks mary

How long till you can see a change
mommyof2 replied to mommyof2's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
thanks alot for responding.. I think I will stop these today... Can you get the flaxseeds at a grocery store or do you need to check a health food store. And is the Omega 3 in flaxseed oil in liquid form... sorry i am confused the word oil makes me think of liquid mary -
Hello All I recently put my son (10) on a flax seed/fish oil mixture pill and noticed he is making alot more vocal tics. It is like a loud hmmm, hard to explain but it is a bit loud...my daughter can hear him in her room after night. When I put him on the new pill it seemed to be good, but after a bit this started. I think I might take him off that one and keep him on his B complex, grape seed and natural calm like he is taking... After reading i hear that to some fish oil is a trigger... my question is does it normally happen in days or weeks when you change your kids medications. I may try just plain flax seed. Another question do you use the pills or the liquid..which is better, is there a strong taste to the flax seed. Thanks for any help...school is soon starting and I would hate to have him distracting the class and bringing attention to himself since he is starting a new school with all new kid. mary

no he only has the anitbiotic and drops for his eyes for the pink eye. I give him a mag/cal subliment, B complex, fishoil/flaxseed comb. and grape seed extract. Mary
-
You know I never thought of the dye...they are pink... looked on my paper work but doesn't show the ingredients. Thanks for you advice. mary

Hello I have read different remarks saying how when some kids were put on anitbiotics the tics subside a bit...well we just put our ds,10, on Amoxicillin for pink eye and this is now the 3rd day and he has started a new vocal tic, he is constantly making a humming noise. He is not doing really any other tics other than his normal arm movements, but they are not quite as bad right now. has anyone had this happen on an antibiotic. Just curios... I am happy he is doing so well right now... but just wondered if anyone had a new one begin with an antibiotic. thanks mary

I thought of the chlorine too because it seemed like after swimming he did a lot of nose noises but the pool he was in when he was doing it uses no chlorine...they have some other kind of system to clean it, and our pool is small and I don't use alot of chlorine in it either...now my parents have a big pool and they do but he is not in it everyday...but it is something to watch for Thanks Mary
-
thank you both for your replies... I am hoping it soon ceases... I guess it bothers me more, because I just hate noises... I like things quiet so i get frustrated quicker... anyways he is at a friends house last night and today so i am not sure how he is doing...hopefully better. But you know thinking back I noticed he started sniffing right before the cold came, I thought it was from alot of swimming he was doing....he must have been getting ready for a cold something to watch for next time...if i hear him start sniffing I am going to give him lots of vitamin c and hope it knocks it out before it starts Again thanks for your comments Mary
-
Good Morning Has this happen to any of you...and does it stop when the cold stops??? My son has been doing really well...just a few hand jerks--hitting his leg, which is tolerible but he just came down with a slight cold now he is constantly sniffing or snorting as I call it...blowing out his nose...It is so constant and driving me crazy and he complains of his nose hurting all the time... Would this be something that wnen the cold gets better the noises might stop. I hate to take him to quiet places such as Church when he is doing this... it just sounds horrible... Thanks for any input Mary

male, 10, use a fish oil and flax seed mixed pill, #1 only had for about 1 1/2 weeks...doing fine
-
after posting i was doing some internet searches and found that out... He will definetely not be going on it. The doctor told me the only big side effect is fatique... i saw more that i would not want. My ds is on a b6 vitamin and I found a B complex stress formula at iherb.com that the doctor said is a good mixture of the vitamins. I think i read here that b vitamins are good for tics. Knocking on wood but these last few days have been great for him...just mild arm movements and some sniffing...but great...funny thing he hasn't played his video games doe 5 days... not sure if that is the culprit but I can say I am happy Mary
-
The drug is catapres I will have to check this out....and ask if anyone else heard of it. The doctor said the biggest side effect is fatique. I too am leary about giving drugs to my son... I don't mind the vitamins...but don't like perscriptions too much Mary
-
I will check and see what the name was...don't think that was it. Will be doing a lot of checking before considering it for my son Okay another silly question...how much cream do you add to the 1/2 epson salt mix??? Mary

Need help with my son's continued anxiety
mommyof2 replied to Dedee's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
dedee we use the natural calm and what we do is mix it in water and then add V8 fusion with it...they have lots of good flavors. This way he is getting the drink with fruits and veg and the mag. My husband drinks this also and said it is really good... give the fusion alittle kick.. I know my son wiould not drink it just in water. Hope this helps Mary -
Great thanks for all the suggestions. I will try the foot soak...I know he will do that sitting down reading a book or watching a baseball game Also will try and make the cream... do you just rub some in certain places... i know he has the most on his arms not staying still... Actually with the fish oil/flax seed oil combination pill stopped some of the head bopping and shaking that was happening. He is doing much better yesterday and today...just arms gong but head is still... Funny he hasn't played video games since Tuesday... thinking that might have helped triggered something... We did have a mri done on him and everything came back fine.... which was great. Someone told me I should still go see a neurologist to be sure... not sure if i should or not. Doctor did suggest a very mild pill to give him...have the name at home, but he said they usually use it to treat high blood pressure it was a very low dosage of like .01 or .03 I think... Mary
