  1. We did try Rothman in 2010...did not help but that was before antibiotics and steroids and immunosuppressants.
  2. Dawn...Can you let me know also. Thanks, Kathy
  3. I would like to know too as this is a last resort for us.

  5. We recently read a book by Shannon Shy titled "It will Be Okay" best book about someone's personal struggle with ocd and journey to healing over ocd. I highly recommend it. posting facebook link below
  6. Thank you! I have the New Chapter Brand, think I need it for me after reading nicklemama's msg!!! We are trying it 1 in morning 1 in evening. Mayzoo, how are you weaning off zoloft?
  7. For those of yiou who are using lemon balm, is it helping with anxiety? We are taking ds, 23 off prozac and wanting to use lemon balm to help transition off med. Thanks!
  8. Bigmighty... this is such good news!!!! what kind of treatment did you do for your son? Does he take anything now? Thanks.
  9. No gluten for a long time. Is on antiobiotics and immunosuppressants. Maybe treatment is beginning to work! ? His ocd had gotten worse in last 2 mths and I asked his Dr. about the IVIG "turning back the pages" and if that theory could apply to cellcept (immunosuppressant) treatment. Answer: fundamentally, yes. so perhaps we are seeing, and smelling the worst before the breakthrough! I hope so. Thanks for the comments!!
  10. My DS 23 has this strong body odor when I wake him up in the morning. Has gotten worse and he does shower so it is not that. I do cook with garlic everyday...2 chicken breasts because thats all he eats for dinner and it has been that way for a year. I had wondered if it was the garlic. But I also wonder if antibiotics can be causing it. Perhaps yeast overgrowth? Has anyone else experienced this?
  11. My son had a spinal tap last year, the opening pressure was high, indicating infection...but none was detected
  12. Rheumatologist wants ds to take 30 day break from zithromax to let it flush out of his system and then start it again. He has been on 250 mg since Oct. 15, 2012. Has anyone else done this? Thanks, Kathy
  13. We have not tried Risperadol, however, at one point my son who has never in 4 years been violent, angry, mean, was put on zyprexa and brought up to 20 mg in a week. The drug made him angry, mean...took him off and 3 weeks later he was fine. I think these drugs affect every person differently and I would be really careful with anti psychotics. My ds 23 is on 10 mg prozac now and we are switching to luvox at end of month but...only 25 mg. Dr. wants to go really low which we are happy about.
  14. My ds15 (adut sized) takes 1,000 mg per day. He was taking 1500 but we cut back recently. He takes capsules - not overly expensive on amazon - $21 for 300 capsules. We do "subscribe and save" for even more savings. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G7R5GI/ref=rcxsubs_mys2_product_title I do know that you need to build up slowly and cut back slowly if you decide to go off. Don't just stop cold turkey if you decide you don't want to do inositol anymore. Have not noticed that he feels tired with it. Inositol is actually in many energy drinks and I know athletes take it as a supplement often as well for energy. Is this helping with the ocd? My son 23 takes prozac, 10 mg but we are going to up to 20mg which is what he was on until 12/20/2012. I would love to get him off ssris but seems he is worse with the ocd since we dropped from 20mg to 10mg.
  15. My ds also takes buspar, 7.5mg morning and evening. Lemon balm works fairly quickly, day or two. Interesting to note, it was helping his acid reflux too.
  16. Some meds yes, others no. Here is a good link to research homeopathic remedies with. It is not all inclusive, but it is a start: My link. I am giving kiddo 495mg caps by Natures Way (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00020HQU0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Kiddo weighs 57lbs. She is taking it in the morning and at night because we have nightmare issues I am hoping it will keep under wraps. So far so great!!! She has allowed me to go to the bathroom alone several times, she has gone to bathroom alone several times and she is staying in the house when I go outside some times or staying outside when I go in for a short period. The separation anxiety appears to be calming down a decent percentage so far. It is not gone completely, but it is way better. She has also slept through the night several times this week. I forgot to answer part of your question on taking lemon balm with other meds: I had to get with his neuropsych because he takes prozac and lemon balm should not be taken with it, but his dr, said it was in fact ok. There are a few meds you should not mix with it.
  17. Were using 300 mg once a day, he weighs 133 lbs, six foot tall. He was backsliding last week so I took him off of it this week just to see if it makes a difference. He seemed more tired thsn usual. I have tried it, it did not make me tired. After this week we will try it again. He took it for 2 weeks and it did seem to help with anxiety.
  18. oh my! have you checked his vitamin D level? But, yay for going outside today. Yes, it was on the low side last time it was checked. This is a kid who lived outdoors...5-7 hours a day of tennis, had a nice tan, now looks like snow white...well, the male version:) SO ready for the breakthrough, like all the parents dealing with this.
  19. My ds 23 will only go outside to get in car to go to Dr. or counseling, otherwise ocd avoidances keep him inside. It has been like this for over a year. We live in Louisiana and today's high is 72 degrees and beautiful outside. DS followed my husband outside when he was leaving after lunch. I quickly shut the door after him, knowing he would not open it or come in until I did. I have washed 2 vehicles, mowed the grass, weed eated, used the blower and watered every plant in the yard. 2 hours later we finally came inside. If I had an outhouse, we would still be outside. So grateful for moments like this!
  20. I bought a capsule. I think it comes in a tea and a lotion as well. Here is the link for what I bought: http://www.iherb.com/Nature-s-Way-Melissa-Leaves-100-Capsules/2015 Here is a synopsis and a link to a pretty good site: "Other uses Some evidence suggests that lemon balm, in combination with other herbs, may help treat indigestion. Others reveal that lemon balm oil has a high degree of antibacterial activity. In one study, lemon balm showed adequate activity against Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus auerus. And a few studies have found that lemon balm may help improve cognitive function and decrease agitation in people with Alzheimer's disease." http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/lemon-balm-000261.htm We use New Chapter brand Lemon Balm force 300mg small capsules. I checked with 2 Drs before using and they both said it was fine. We saw his main dr yesterday and he definetely feels it is helping.
  21. We are going to try the lemon balm (I bought a 490mg by Nature's way, Melissa leaves). How often and how much are you giving? Right now she has such separation anxiety that I cannot get her to be more than 2 feet away from me and I am bumping into when I am cooking. I cannot even go to the bathroom alone. We dealt with this before, but it resolved with the ABXs. So far, no resolution yet. I am hoping the T & A will help in the long run as we get some of the infections under control without the tonsils being a constant source of reinfection. Thanks He takes 300 mg 1 time a day. We were giving it to him in the morning, just switched today to evening. He seemed a bit tired the last few days and wanted to see if switching it would help.
  22. If you want something for anxiety and not ocd, I really recommend trying the lemon balm. I tried it myself for 3 days before giving it to my ds, 23. It really works. He has been taking it for about 10 days and his fingernails that were barely visible have all grown out and need trimming. Saw his Rheumatologist today, he could not believe it. It is natural so both his neuro psychologist/pharm D and rheumatologist said it was fine to use. Fairly inexpensive.
  23. My ds has taken buspar for the last 2 years...7.5 mg twice a day. His Dr. says it it more like a placebo. I don't really think it does too much and talked to dr. today about stopping. We have just started using lemon balm and have seen huge difference in anxiety in last 10 days.
  24. Our ds 23 is being treated by a rheumatologist. Maybe you can convince yours to treat at lest with antibiotics. We are using steroids, antibiotics and immunosuppressant - cellcept. on our 4th month now, will do at least 9 mths. just a thought if it takes a while to see someone else, since you have an appt. thursday.
