cobbiemommy Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) Just curious what supplements, if any, others are giving their children for Lyme or PANDAs. My poor son takes a fistful in the morning and about half as many in the evening. We are taking calcium, magnesium, Folinic Acid, Vitamins C D & E, Zinc, B Complex, and Fish Oil. Therbiotic Detox is our probiotic. We also added a protocol of L-tryptophan, l-tyrosine, and MSM, in addition to the antibiotics. Metadate was prescribed back when they thought it was ADHD, I'm not sure that it is really working. My son is not sure if it helps him or not. We started taking most of these on the advice of a DAN doctor based on testing from two years ago. I am not willing to shell out the $600 for new testing, Would you continue ALL of these? I cannot believe how much information I am putting out here for anyone to see--this is how much guidance we need! Edited September 10, 2010 by cobbiemommy
justinekno Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 On the advice of our dr which is based on testing, we do vit c & d (in winter) and zinc, b-6, magnesium, s. boulardii and a probiotic. Thank goodness he has learned to swallow pills this year! I know, I sometimes hesitate posting details but then I find other people's details helpful so maybe mine are too? Who knows. sf_mom Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 (edited) My home address is..... 'just kidding'. Our following regime: 1. 1.5 Trillion probiotic units per day (build good bacteria) 2. B-12 50,000 m.g. per day (nerve damage, mood) 3. 1 cup Bentonite Clay at bedtime (detox) 4. EpiCor x 2 (stimulates good yeast growth) 5. Oil Oregeno x 2 (great anti-fungal and good for killing Candida) 6. Sy-Immune Tablets x 2 (anti-viral) 7. Azithromycin 250 m.g. 8. Alinia 500 m.g. Remember we are working with a nutritionist that guides us. Our nutritionist main focus is to repair the gut flora and to normalize PH balance within the body. There is no focus on diet. justinekno Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Does anyone know what supplements shouldn't be taken at the same time as a probiotic or antibiotic? I have Dr. Bock's book which is helpful in knowing what supplement to take with other supplements but he doesn't really address antibiotic use in relation to timing of supplements. I give supplements with antibiotics but wondering if I shouldn't.

SF Mom- In regards to the abxs, probiotic, and Epicor & Oil of Oregeno--how do you space them apart?
sf_mom Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 When I spoke with our LLMD the only thing he was concerned about was taking the Bentonite Clay two hours away from antibiotic and these particular antibiotics with food. He felt like the Bentonite Clay would inhibit the antibiotic strength (previously we took them all together). So, in the morning he takes half of everything listed above with breakfast... right before dinner he takes second half of the Alinia (250 m.g. with breakfast, 250 m.g. with dinner), shortly after dinner other 1/2 of supplements. Bentonite Clay at bed. With the twins, I actually have to wake them up before I go to bed to take 1/2 of their antibiotic regimen. Crazy but I'm now used to everything.

justinekno Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 So does that mean you are giving the probiotic with the antibiotic? SF Mom, Could you share exactly how you time these? I am having trouble fitting everything in, and are worried detox agents (bentonite or charcoal) might soak up the abxs, and also that herbal supplements (like Olive of Oregano), might kill the organisms in the antibiotic before they get to do their job! Thanks so much! Isabel
sf_mom Posted September 15, 2010 Report Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) For our older son who attends school, we do give probiotics with antibiotic in the morning at breakfast. In the evening we give the antibiotic prior to dinner and probiotics after dinner so there is a little spacing. The bentonite clay is always given at bedtime with a full 2 hour after antibiotics. We give so much probiotics (1.5 trillion units per day) and some in a capsule form we figure some of it has to stimulates the good bacteria growth. Our nutritionist reminds me all the time that probiotics are not live organisms and only stimulate the growth of good bacteria. The anti-viral is also given in the morning (2 pills) with everything else. Because there are so many pills involved sometimes its easier to do probiotic powder with kefir and juice. Kefir does have the strep strains in it but I am not worried. Our little boy twin was deficient in 13 of 14 strep pneumo titers (literally <.03 in most serotypes). He is now responsive in 5 of the 14 serotypes. We will continue to track the titers with all three children to ensure they are turning around. I hope to run the tests every six months. -Wendy p.s. I forgot to mention we do 'Bactroban Nasal - Mupirocin Calcium Ointment' in the nose prior to school and at bedtime. This was prescribed by our LLMD to help prevent strep/additional bacterias from entering the body and presenting further problems. Prior to the ointment we were using a Colloidal Silver nasal spray for the same purpose. Edited September 15, 2010 by SF Mom
