Ds has been doing so well.....i was going to post today....

then he came home from school....and his vocals are up and a motor....

we where virtually motor free except in times of stress...he would go hours w/o

allergies last week were about 12... the quercitin really helped ...giving 100mg in morning and at night...

coincidently we decided to have him try a pear.....he cannot eat fruit unless it is processed....

doctor latimer called it a birch allergy....and said he will out grow it?????...well he tries fresh fruit about once a month....well last night and today he at a pear...we peeled it....no itching....not ready to try other stuff yet....but...is it from the steroid...or the quercitin?????

NOW back to my question...as my heart is sinking....i'm thinking what the........was it this or that...

could it be i gave him 3 drops of grapefruit seed extract this morning....

ds said it was worse after recess...as per last year....allergies....i checked site...ragweed at 77!!!!!!!!!!!

what do i do??????

so he is on querctine 100mg am and pm...

1000mg buffered C

i just gave him 200mg of quecitne and benedrylllll

Could be either as this is allergy season. I find the quercetin really helps with allergies. Your dosage sounds low though. How much does your child weigh? I give my DD 1000 mg twice daily and have been doing that for several years.

Hi - I am so feeling your anxiety as I read your post. I cannot give you answers for what is happening with your son, but i can remind you about good allergy practices, which may help a bit (or certainly will not hurt). Remember to keep windows closed - especially in his bedroom. Remember to have everyone remove shoes when they enter the house, have a rug near the front door to help trap pollen, and vacuum often with a hypoallergenic vacuum.

His bedroom needs to be an allergy-free zone, so he can get 8 hours of relief to reduce the "allergy load". Make sure the mattress, box spring and pillows have dust mite covers. Wash the sheets and especially the pillow cases regularly. Dust and vaccuum. Use an air purifier in the room.

Remember to have your son shower every night before bed and not sit on his bed with his outside clothes.

I don't know if those things will help with the ragweed allergies, but they will at least reduce the allergy load as much as possible.

I wish I had a magic cure for you and for the screams. I would say that you need to be systematic about things. Make a list of what he was taking when he was "really good" and make a list of what is new now.... then work backward and remove things one at a time. Remember that it takes food about 4 days to leave the system for allergies (at least that is what Dr. Rapp says), so you may not see a change for a few days.

Keep posting so we know how you are doing!

THANK YOU...

its either allegies or c.diff as 3 times i've had the screams retreat with vanco..steph's post helped to remind me..and again ds has been on zith at 500...(i sure hope we don't have lymes..as this and with aug we need to be on diflucan)...

but the hop when he walks...could that be c.diff too...??? i'm asking...

so tomorrow...no azith...for at least 2 days.....then maybe 250 every other day...this is just me/like most here playing case manager until i hear something better or get ahold of a doc to guide....

i will increase sach B. and lactovacillius plantaruim 299 as it has been recommended for candida....

maybe i can get vanco again...i did order the oat test and others last week to see where we were...can't get here to soon....

and as per newbie...forget her name...she said doc said too many vancos may make you resistant with abxs ....so maybe i can start with probiotics...till further notice......

i will go to school to see if they can keep him inside till further notice...my kid will not be happy....don't even know if they will do thata....i purposely was not putting him in any sports this year becasue of allergies..and secondly stress...

WE WERE SOOOO CLOSE!!! I HATE THIS SOT!!!!!!

Kimballout gave me some similar "allergy tips" LAST allergy season, and they really did help! Hence my near homicidal freak-out when I came home one day last week and DH had all the windows in the house wide open! :o He thought I'd lost it when I went off about how doesn't he remember what we went through last allergy season and how we agreed to shut up the house and use only filtered air and cleaned everything within an inch of its life and washed all the floors (including the wooden ones), etc., etc.,?!?!?! He took one look at my wild eyes and ran around, shutting every open window within seconds. :P

Our DS13 is 135 lbs., and he's getting 1500 mg. quercitin daily, plus Benedryl at night and Zyrtec during the day. All that intervention . . . plus the home changes . . . has really made a difference thus far this season.

Go strong, I say!

Can you take him in to get tested for c dif an then get vanco if that is the problem? YOu might want to hold off on changing the abx right now, since he was doing well with them... and if you change them then that will just be one more thing to throw in the mix as a possible cause of future problems.

You have a variety of things going on that need to be separated out. This is allergy season but your son may have also been exposed to something at school.

I don't know much about grapefruit seed extract, but if your son is allergic to fruit, I would be inclined to eliminate the grapefruit seed extract.

Kimballot gave some very good suggestions. Allergies can REALLY exacerbate PANDAS. As much as I hate it, I keep our windows closed year round. Our A/C is going non-stop from May through September. But what a difference it makes. I am anal about making everyone remove their shoes when they come in. I keep our home chemical-free on both the inside and outside.

I do think the quercetin works well for my child but every child responds differently. It's been a long time but at 80 lbs I think I was giving my daughter ~700-1000 mg twice daily. If my allergies act up or I feel a cold coming on I always take quercetin and it zaps it very quickly.

You may also need a different abx.

And steriods can cause severe mood dysregulation or rages in some children.

Be sure you try only one new thing at a time and give it a sufficient amount of time to know if there are any changes (good or bad). I always give it at least two or three weeks before I layer on something new with my daughter. But look at other things that may be causing the screaming. Dyes and additives result in very psychotic-like behaviors in my daughter. Yeast causes a lot of behavioral problems. And the list goes on...

I hope things get better soon!

Thanks ladies...

i will try to pull back...maybe change one thing....we haven't had open doors or window for years...unfortunaely he goes outside after lunch....and i asked about his tics being worse and he said it was worse after being outside.....same cause effect as last spring....wake up in what ever state...come home 10xs worse....

last years teacher was so awesome and she was writing me almost daily noting the change after outside recess

it was also warm today...since the taper,..if he acts up, i could almost relate it to inflammaton...cold drinks, showers, turn up the air, cold compress. and some ibf...he would settle right down....

we have not done steroids in 42 days..so i was thinking that maybe that settled his taste buds too to not react to pears...they are the mildest on the salicitlate scale....

no grapefruit extract that's at least for a while...

i have zytec...will add that in morning....i dont know if that really ever helped ds...but i don't think it worsens anything for him

did someone say something about pecid ac or pepto bismol at some point to help allergies...

singulare bad...right.

what about the B's

thing is ...not only trying to relieve symptoms, which i know can agreivate..tics and ocd...but want the allergen to not get to brain or make it trigger...the quercitin was really something...that somehow seemed to change the chemisty...

i'll also be calling dan office and doc b in morning

still trying to get insurance straight as new about 3 weeks ago...need to get tonsils out yesterday...i'm done!!!

And don't forget the enormous stress of being back at school. September can be a rough month all around. PANDAS can make us all a little crazy! :o

My husband has birch allergies since he was kid and he never outgrew it, although I don't think it's as "strong" of an allergy now. As for the Quercetin, how much does your son weigh? I was looking it up for my kids and you might want to check the dosing you can give him. You might be able to give him more than the 100mg.

I'm looking into Natural D-Hist JR for my kids. They also make a D-Hist for teens and adults. This includes Quercetin, Stinging Nettle, NAC, Vit C, and Bromelain. I believe Alyssa takes this brand, You can double check with her, if interested.

THis is our 5th week of school...but maybe because of 3 day weekend it added stress..

i have some things hopefully coming from iherb i hope by friday/// i may have to go the herb store...cant wait...

ds woke up ok..a couple of small vocals...then in car did a cough/rasberry/screech combo......

was readind about grapefruit seed extract GSE..it says its good for candida, yeast

then i read this

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080709144424AAjHILp

and this

http://www.fungusfocus.com/html/grapefruit_seed_extract_info.htm

which lead me to Giardia lamblia

resides in lower intestinal tract... can be passed on by dogs as well as other stuff..we had 2 for 10 years...first 8 years of ds life...

as it is as a flagellated parasite...maybe that is band 41 on lymes test????

Vickie --

Is that a pill/capsule supplement or a nasal spray? It would be convenient to have all of those in one dose, if sufficient. Our quercitin comes in a combo with Vitamin C and bromelain, but we're dosing the NAC separately, and there's no stinging nettle in our mix at all thus far.

Be interested to hear how your kids fair with this.

The adult D-Hist is capsules. Here's a link to the company website http://www.orthomolecularproducts.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=e3dd50ed-7f02-4d19-9e2a-907d09d57923

Then there's the Jr one which is for kids (the kids I would give it to are 6 and 9 yrs old)...the Junior ones are chewables. I'll probably buy it in the next couple weeks. I'm trying to find a store that carries it before getting it shipped.

i heard of d-hist last year...will probably get that too.....

anyone use pepcid A/C ..is there something in it that is good for allergies...or is it that it's addressing the gut and gut issues can increase allergy issues...
