Vision changes

My dd 12, is also saying her vision is doing wierd things. She says the objects she looks at seem to be blinking, light and dark, in a rapid fire fashion and it is fuzzy. She also describes that when she looks at light or objects near light, they pulsate and get bigger and smaller in a SLOW fashion. She JUST got a new pair of glasses a few weeks ago, and then as a regular doctor check up, one eye tested at 20/70 WITH her brand new glasses on.

 

I thought the pulsating or blinking sounded like the throbbing of a headache, but she has no headaches at the time and says the blinking is erratic and NOT in sync with her heart rate. We will go back to an eye doctor for sure, but is anyone else having visions issues like this?

Hi - not quite the same but during one of my dd's exacerbations, she said that things looked too far away, especially when she was going to bed at night. I couldn't work out if it was a physical eye thing or a procesing issue. It resolved when that exacerbation ended and hasn't returned with new exacerbations.

My son's vision changed 4 times last year. 4 new prescriptions for glasses. We have taken him to numerous specialists and they can't find anything wrong with his eyes. He sees floaters, spots, bright flashes, little lights that aren't there, blurry vision, sometimes things have a haze around them. This has improved as treatment has gone on and we have only have 1 new prescription this year. He has late stage Lyme and Augmentin has made this biggest improvement for almost all of his symptoms, including his eyes.

 

I don't know if that helps at all.

My son also had floaters and 20/40 then 20/50 vision within the last year....... all too is improving with treatment. Its been a while since we've had complaints of floaters.

Just me, but I wouldn't put off calling the doc for a second with these symptoms. Something about eyes scare me. On a strange note, my son has been far sighted with astygmatism since age 4. This spring after several months of abx treatment, we found his vision had improved, and his complaints that his contacts were a ll blurry was legit. He still has the astygmatism, but is not longer far-sighted...

Please google Irlen Syndrom or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrom. My DD as well as non pandas son have this. I have spoken with Dr T about this on several occasions and he has told me he has also noticed some kids with light sensitivity. I do not believe the two are related but do believe the part of the brain effected by each syndrom is somehow making each of her conditions worse. After reading about this if you have questions or want me to elaborate more please PM me. You will be amazed at the symptoms similar to what you are describing in your child! Light sensitivity is real and effects many but only some are severe enough to cause problems. My DD's sensitivity and conditions of this syndrom get much worse during an exacerbation!!

Our oldest d (who had very severe obvious Pandas symptoms) had vision issues which caused us to take her to a specialist--ran all types of tests, and nothing more then a reported need for glasses for the first time.

 

I do think Pandas can affect vision issues, inflammation would be my guess, but I am not a doctor.

 

Her symptoms improved once treated. (Still needs glasses!)

I have Lyme, and have these symptoms except I haven't had the change in eyesight measured because it wasn't severe. I've also had double vision when looking at near objects... and believe it is all neurological and involving the ocular nerve... I read about it anyway but can't remember a thing.

Thanks so much everyone. I'm starting to think there is not an area that is NOT affected by PANDAS. In the past there were warm spots on her body and now she has cool spots.......:-( Vision, chest, memory, OCD, phlegm, joint pain, emotional lability. This is a pretty all encompassing illness.
