philamom Posted September 19, 2010 Report Posted September 19, 2010 My son has Lyme. He takes a lot of Vit C, a multivitamin, magnesium, fish oil, milk thistle for liver support, ginger root, B Complex and Pantothenic Acid (B5) and activated charcoal. he is also on good probiotics and beneficial yeast. These two are extremely important to help balance out the GI. Watch the type of magnesium. Magnesium malate and aspertate are generally the best absorbed kind. Magnesium oxide is the hardest on your stomach and also the least absorbed. Another good way to detox and get magnesium is through epsom salt baths. Magnesium also helps a lot for any twitching. Lemon water is also a great way to help detox the liver. My son suffered from a lot of nausea and we were told to start him on activated charcoal, especially during herx's, once a day, one pill and take it at least 3 hours away from antibiotics. I saw an overnight difference in our son after we started this. A few things to be aware of when taking activated charcoal - it can turn stools black and can also make urine appear dark green in color. This is just the charcoal coming out. Charcoal is not absorbed in the bloodstream, it absorbs any bacteria in the tummy and help to bind to it to remove it. I am going to start only giving this probably 2-3 times a week now, bc charcoal can also absorb nutrients. The ginger root capsules seem to help with inflammation and upset tummy. I open the capsule and take half of it out as a full capsule seems to make his tummy churn too much. A half a capsule prevents nausea from the abx and works well for him. I'm sorry for all of the sick children on here. There is nothing worse than having a sick child. It's been a rough year for us, but I am starting to finally see progress in him. I hope your child has a fast recovery. Does it matter what brand of activated charcoal? We have been using Nature's Way brand, but I don't think it would really matter what brand you use. Great! I'm also looking for a brand of milk thistle to give my dd9. Any recommendations--I think you use it? Thanks again!

We were using Full Circle which comes in 350 mg capsules and I gave it to him once a day, but the store was out of it for a long time so I started using Jarrow brand but its only 150 mg so I am giving twice a day, but I don't think the brand really matters. I try to stick with one brand as often as possible though.
