Guest Guest_Layne
We have found a new environment doctor who has ordered a number of tests for my son's TS. She has recommended the following tests: CBC with Diff SMA - 25 Thyroid Panel Magnesium Challenge Heavy Metal Challenge Great Smokies Ova & Parasites Spectracell She does antigen allergy testing for individual foods, so she didn't order the IgG at this time. Is this all we should have checked? What kind of test should be run to check for excessive yeast in the gut? We have done the spit test at home and it appears this is a problem. Phyl
The only test sensitive enough to pick up my son's yeast and clostridia overgrowth is the Great Plains Microbial Organic Acid Test (OAT). It involves a collection of the first morning urine and it requires that the client not eat anything with apples, cranberries, and two other fruits for 24 hours before. Our environmental doctor prefers this test because it shows up metabolites from yeast, etc. overgrowth and also can pick up some deficiencies like glutathione. The only test which my son had, of those you mentioned was the Great Smokies test for parasites. That's an excellent test, and can pick up parasites that other tests miss, but it may not catch the yeast.
Claire
Hi Layne, Like Phyl, we love the Great Plains test for yeast. The stool tests often miss yeast, since it clumps. I love Spectracell! I prefer the serum test for metals. The metal challenges worry me because you are dumping a bunch of metal from your system at once, which can cause problems. My neighbor did DMSA and woke up the next day with horrible yeast and a great tongue. But I bet the metal challenges are very accurate. I will ask my own DAN/Environ. medicine doctor as to his thoughts for our future reference. It would be great if while drawing blood he could do an IgG test for food sensitiviites e.g. www.elisaact.com Maybe too much blood at once though. Guest Jean
Hi Claire, Our ND just ordered the Heavy Metal Challenge test for my son. My son needs to take captomer (3 pills) before the test. By reading your post, I am sort of worry now. We haven't doen the test yet, any advice is appreciated! Claire
Jean, I know just enough to be dangerous...it may be completely safe! I do know that DMSA is controversial, and my DAN doctor and Pfeiffer prefer other methods. I don't know how it differs from DMSA. I tried to call our DAN doctor today, but they are out until Tuesday. Claire ps maybe my neighbor will know...she does a ton of research I like the idea of the test if it is indeed safe.
Guest Guest_Layne
Thank you for the information regarding the test for yeast! I will definitely check into it for my son. Jean, Regarding the heavy metal test, please read www.tacanow.com/mercury.htm. Specifically, look at the question "My alternative doctor wants to do a DMPS challenge. Is this safe?" I would recommend reading everything you can on this (DMPS or DMSA) before allowing it to be administered to your child. This site also refers you to read www.dmpsbackfire.com. Please let us know what you decide to do and the results you notice for you child as I am going to have my son tested for heavy metals in the near future.
