I just found this board tonight and I can not believe what I have read. My son, Kaleb, who is twelve years old was diagnosed at the age of 7 with Tourette Syndrome, OCD and ADD.

Kaleb is currently taking Clonidine, Straterra and Desparamine.

I had absolutely no idea that there could possibly be any other explanation for the tics and problems that he has been having. If anyone could possibly send me any information about any of this stuff I would be very greatful....ie..vitamin deficiencies, doctors that deal with this, television/video game issues. and I read somewhere about ears turning bright red...we definately have that as well.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. We had such a stressful day with him today that I just sat down and cried when I found this site a couple of hours ago. I sincerely hope that this will be a part of the answers to my often said prayers.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Hi Kaleb's mom,

I responded to your PM. Not sure if you get email notification or not. You can respond to it here if you want to...

And yes, finding this site was the answer to many of our prayers. Just the start of a journey/process, but so many have been successful. It will seem overwhelming, but there is a lot to learn. Before you know it, you will be helping others.

Maybe the site editor should rename this site: "Pay it forward" (ie like the movie!).

Keep in mind that some of the supplements won't mix with medicine. I suspect you will ultimately need a doctor from the link at the top of this page to help guide you with the right program to be able to wean off supplements.

But this site still has specifics that no doctor in the world has the time to share with everyone.

Kaleb's Mom, I have heard of reactions to certain foods causing bright red ears. It's possible that one of Kaleb's triggers might be something that he is eating. For my daughters and me, artificial colors, artificial flavors, and certain preservatives are tic triggers. We have been following the Feingold program for several years with great success in keeping the tics at bay.

If you are interested, check out feingold.org for more info.

I feel very confident that you will find what triggers Kaleb's tics, and that you will be able to treat them without meds. Finding this web site was your first step!

Best wishes. Jeff

Dear Barb

I too am so thankful that your prayers have been answered and that you have begun to consider that their may be alternatives to treating Kalebs tics.

I would like to encourage you from a personal level, as my son had VERY severe TS/OCD/ADD and used to be on meds, but now, four years after going off meds and on to natural treatments, his tics are very mild and the OCD is barely noticeable and he is on the honor role at school !

You will find so much excellent information here at Latitudes, and especially from the experiences of the posters on this forum. Claire has compiled a number of valuable threads on some of the causes and treatments common to many here

I have also put together a thread on what we have done to help him, which I hope will give you some pointers. I have bumped it up for you and here is the direct link
