saidie10 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I need some advice on what to say to other doctors/ dentists etc. I want the focus to be on the issue for the appointment and not on a disease that someone may not believe in. When I fill out paperwork on medical history, what should I say? I would need an explanation for the antibiotics. I have a couple appointments today. Thank you. p.s. I am not concern about insurance. They fortunately believe in Pandas. I've told doctors post strep disorder or post strep encephalopathy. Any others have any good advice?
peglem Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I just say she has an autoimmune disorder that is triggered by strep (or infection).
Phasmid Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 If it is not something a particular doc needs to know, I offer very little history. At the dentist I ran into some trouble when at my son's routine visit I asked for the hygenist to NOT do a deep cleaning which would involve any scraping or possible tissue damage (which would bring on potential immune response). She asked why. I told her that he had just recovered from an immune related illness. She demanded to know more. I told her she didn't need to know more than that. She put her tools down and called for the dentist! I didn't explain any more to him, except that my son was on an antibiotic and no need for anyone to get their panties in a bunch. I just simply don't want the gums injured. Dentist was totally cool with that and told the hygenist to resume her work accordingly. She was really p.o.'d for some reason and never said a word to me or my son the entire cleaning!
airial95 Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I write very defiantly as the explanation for the antiboitocs - PANDAS. When my son went to the dentist last time, she looked at that, said she wasn't familiar - what was it. I explained. And she got onto her laptop right then and there and looked it up. Rather than being dismissive, she was intrigued since she never heard of it. Now - I'm not sure how I'm going to approach the neuorlogist - our pediatrician just referred us - do I tell him or no??

I would tell a neurologist- PANDAS has neurological implications and I would think its info they would need to accurately assess whats going on.

mama2alex Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 How awful! I wonder what her problem was. We go to a mercury-free dentist, so when I told our hygienist about PANDAS, she got it no problem. They have lots of patients with autism and other health problems working with holistic doctors, so they are very open-minded. I have to say, I do talk to other doctors about PANDAS, in hopes that the information I spread will help a child at some point. If it is not something a particular doc needs to know, I offer very little history.
