Ask them to fax them to you- The nurse has reviewed them with me before. FYI- he called me last night after leaving a message in the morning about something and I got exactly what I needed so don't worry! Brandy

You can ask the records person to fax you a copy. They are your son's results and you have every right to see them right away, even if the doc is not available to discuss.

UUUUGGGGHHHH!!!! thanks for all the advise...tried to call the lab about faxing to pedi and they said Dr. R would have to make the request. so i sit and wait until tomorrow morning. i will call first thing they can count on that!
justinekno Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 (edited) On a similiar note, I have learned to ask the dr ordering the test (if different from our reg dr) to have the lab cc our regular dr because I know our regular dr will always send me the copies of the labwork when I ask. I found a way around this. I had the ordering doctor's office fax the lab results to our other doctor. (Who could call me right away with the results, and who, of course, needed to see them too.) Some labs will fax the results to more than one physician. That is also something you can try. May Edited June 23, 2010 by justinekno
becjonz Posted June 23, 2010 Report Posted June 23, 2010 I don't know how it works where you are but the tests are always done by a lab affiliated with our local hospital so I wait the week that it usually takes for the AntiDNAse B to come in and then go and fill out a records request at the medical information office of the hospital. As his parent they need to provide me with with a copy of his medical records. It costs me a quarter a sheet but is totally worth it to me to have all the lab work in my binder. (it is a good thing too as I have not been called by either of his doctors with lab results any time that he has had them done.)
tantrums Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 Hope you can get them soon!! I just went last week. I requested the lab send them directly to me as well as Dr. T. I have three other doctors that want them as well and really, it was just easier to have them sent to me and I will send to the other doctors. I also will need to bring them to CHOP and Bristol Myers Squibb for the upcoming appointments. Next time, see if your lab will send directly to you as well. May still need the doctor to interpret some and to tell you what it means to him as far as treatment, but at least you can get an idea right away.
sptcmom Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 I can have the lab fax them to me if you're having such a hard time. I wouldn't mind filling out the paperwork for Quest etc with my info from my clinic. I do that for all my patients who see specialists already. Specialists can be a pain. I feel sometimes they just want to squeeze another visit out of you financially speaking. I wish they would atleast share the info with you and most parents wouldn't mind a follow up visit to up their specialist's bank balance Jeez! Sorry its my pet peeve. Disrespecting parents of patients is a huge ethical issue for me. Until you have a child with major issues like PANDAS its very hard for any one, doctor, anyone, to really relate. Let me know if there is no other way out. Also, I now Quest has a HIPAA form release that you can fill out at the appt time and they will mail you the bloodwork home. I guess other labs must do the same. They all have to follow HIPAA regs. Jodie
