footballguy Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 So i'm 22 and have postive tests for strept. I also have lyme disease on top of all of this. Biggest symptom is the tics and was wondering is it possible for someone my age to have pandas by getting it earliar? I do remember having mono and a strept infection or three in highschool like 15,16,17ish. If so what would be the next step in curing this problem? The ivig and where could a californian go to find a doc who does this?
Kay Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 My daughter is 19 and we believe she has had Pandas for a while. Her biggest exacerbation came at age 17 when she was exposed to strep by a friend who had a confirmed case. It took us a couple of yeas to find out what it was she has and right now we are using antibiotics as treatment and will consider IVIG down the road. If you read Dr K's website http://webpediatrics.com/pandas.html Pediatric onset. The first symptoms of PANDAS are most likely to occur between 5 and 7 years of age. Symptoms can occur as early as 18 months of age or as late as 10 years of age. If the first clinically recognized episode is detected after the age of 10, it is unlikely true initial episode, but the recurrent one. Previous episode(s) were simply not recognized as such you will see that it is more likely that the onset was earlier in life which is what we believe happened to my daughter but it did not really advance until that exposure. She remembers other times when some ocd crept into her life and it was likely when she was exposed but it never took off like the one at 17. Here too is a list of doctors by state. http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...&hl=doctors Read these boards you will see comments as well on who is using who and for what reasons, many of the doctors are willing to help someone in your state if they are not knowledgeable of Pandas. Hope this is helpful. Kay So i'm 22 and have postive tests for strept. I also have lyme disease on top of all of this. Kay Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 I guess Nancy and I were answering at the same time, sorry for duplicate information. sf_mom Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Another resource.... Diana Polhman and I met with a Dr. and his nurse practitioner willing to HELP PANDAS children. Dr. Sunjya K. Schweig, MD and Amy Joy Smith, Nurse practitioner, Hill Park Medical Center, Petaluma, CA, . It turns out that Amy's son has suffered from Celiac's Disease for a long time and now most likely PANDAS. Dr. Schweig is coming up to speed quickly with required preliminary testing for PANDAS, he is versed in Lyme treatment protocol and is hoping to provide IVIG treatments per Dr. K's protocol. He is in the process of consulting with him and having Dr. K follow his first patient post IVIG treatment. He displayed compassion and a commitment to helping our children. http://www.hillparkmedicalcenter.com/
footballguy Posted June 13, 2010 Author Report Posted June 13, 2010 Interesting. I am actually not to far from petaluma. Like 2 hours. Now how many treatments do you need for this to be succesful? And yes I have been on like antibiotics for over a year until the last couple months my lyme doctor had me switch to natural antibiotics.
