matis_mom Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 DS7 has complained off and on about his stomach hurting and would have the occasional loose stool. I wonder if i am reading too much into things though since I have him under a microscope right now! My son had strep in this gut, and those were his symptoms, pretty much. Every now and then he would just say "my stomach hurts", and he did throw up out of the blue a couple of times, but it was overall nothing dramatic. The other thing was that he was extremely tired all the time. The found out it was there through a stool test. Hope this helps. Isabel
FallingApart Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 That sounds like our strep carrier non PANDAS daughter. We have been thinking it is rectal because it has always appeared as a diaper rash. So if you identify it as strep in the gut, what is the course of action? Is it any different than rectal or oral strep?

I wonder if i am reading too much into things though since I have him under a microscope right now! My 2 yo had strep in his gut at the age of 15 months, the time of his very first exacerbation. Found out by stool analysis... He had diarrhea, but I think other things were causing that. Stephanie
matis_mom Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 So if you identify it as strep in the gut, what is the course of action? Is it any different than rectal or oral strep? I understand the only different thing is that they might want to use Vancomycin, which targets the intestinal tract and doesn't really go into the bloodstream, but don't quote me on that one! My son was on Vancomycin plus Cefuroxine for a while. Vancomycin in very expensive (about $600 per month!) so be aware just in case insurance doesn't cover it. Also, tons of probiotics and a good diet are helpful.
