Guest Concerned Mom
Hi to everyone and thank you to whomever started these posts!!! This has been a wealth of information to me since we are new to the world of TS. I have a wonderful 9 year old son who has been diagnosed with TS during this past year. We are currently seeing a Pediatric Neurologist and he is taking Tenex. It doesn't seem to be helping very much. Although his tics have gotten progressively worse over the past 9 months, I am not willing to try any of the other prescribed medications available at this point. I have been reading all of the very informative posts on this website and am interested in trying a more natural approach to his treatment. What kind of doctor should I take him to first? I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, so I know there must be every type of doctor readily available....I just don't know where to start. I am also interested in trying the supplements which have been suggested here. I have looked at Bonnie Grimaldi's supplements on her website, but the only way I see to inquire about ordering her supplements is by sending an e-mail. I have sent two e-mails over the past 3 weeks and have not received a reply. My questions are....what kind of doctor do I start with and who do I see to decide which supplements to use and how much to give????
Chemar
Hi concerned mom and welcome to Latitudes here is the link to the thread on top of this forum for finding doctors who take a more natural approach http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...p?showtopic=565 Integrative doctors,Naturopaths, and others, like the DAN doctors are usually the ones who are best to see. It is a good idea to get their guidance on the supplements too Bonnie Grimaldi may be away at present and I am sure she will contact you asap. Her supps are specifically formulated for TS Some of us have followed her guidelines and come up with our own combinations of supps too. Again, doing this under a good physician's guidance is by far the best route. here is a link to what I have done to help my son http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...wtopic=687&st=0 let us know if you have any more questions
Claire
This doctor list at the top of this forum is terrific--several of us found our doctors this way: http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...p?showtopic=565 Other threads have vitamins in the title, or 'what worked for my child' -please look at those for ideas. Good luck--must run now! Claire
Guest Ronna
We have had good results with bonnie's vitamins. Try calling (614)837-7545 for information about ordering bonnie's vitamins. Ronna
Guest Concerned Mom
Thank you Chemar, Claire and Ronna for all of your help!! I pulled up the links to the doctors and there were quite a few in this area. Do I need to focus on one who specializes in "environmental medicine"? Claire
CM, I found one that was on both the DAN doctor and Environmental Medicine Doctor list. I especially like the DAN doctors, as they have a testing/treatment protocol in place for neurological spectrum disorders--don't be mislead by the term autism, many of us here have found similar underlying issues. Note the DAN list shows what tests they run. I would find a few on both lists, and call them on the phone to ask 1) if they have treated children with tics and 2) what tests they typically run, and 3) there office visit fee--this can vary greatly and can be a determining factor for some. If they are a DAN doctor, the lists should show what conferences they attended, the more recent the better, though this is only one factor. Guest Concerned Mom
Thank you very much Claire! I have contacted the office of a doctor I found on the AAEM website who specializes in Allergy, Environmental Med and Nutritional Med. I left a message about an hour ago asking them to call me back to answer some questions. I didn't look at any of the dr's on the autism website because I didn't know there was a correlation between tourettes and autism. I will pull up the DAN list and also make some more calls. Thanks again for all of your help!!
