Families on High Dose Daily Zith

Ok so my dd is on 500 mg daily zith by a pandas doc. It has really helped her. She is doing better on it. Now however, she has gotten a bad URI and after 5 days of fighting it, she now has a high fever and sinus, ear and bronchitis infections. So my question to all families who rely on the zith to keep the pandas symptoms down, what do you do when a penicillin base abx like aug or cefdinir are needed? Do you do both or do you take a break from the zith? 500 mg of zith per day is a lot. But adding on the other abx is needed right now considering the zith did not prevent the infections. I know some take both and any feedback on how that has gone would be appreciated. Oh and all this on top of monthly ivig for immune deficiency. I wish my dd wasn't sick with this infection. Thanks.

My dd8 is on 500 mg zith and she just got bronchitis. They first gave her augmentin but she had a reaction (very bad diarrhea and some confusion) so they changed it to cefzil. That (plus some prednisone) got her over that infection. We did both the zith and the cefzil at the same time. I increased her probiotics and also had her on lamisil for yeast during that time too and she was fine.

My 13 yo 95 lb dd takes 250mg of Azith twice per day as well as 875mg of Augmentin twice per day. She does fine on it as long as she takes her Culturelle and takes them with food.

But, how can you be sure the URI is not viral? We've doubled up on abx in the past, too, but that was to try to eradicate intracellular strep.

My kids are on Zith 250 mg/day and when they have gotten ear infections our doc adds another antibiotic for 10 days, but we continue on the Zithromax. It is OK to be on 2 antibiotics at the same time, espeically if it is just for a course.
