Phyl Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 My son still has an overgrowth of yeast/fungus as shown through an elevated level of metabolites in a recent Great Plains Microbial Organic Acid test. I've written about this before and we have another appointment with our holistic doctor soon to hopefully deal with this again. His level is lower then it was before, but it still needs to be dealt with. Also, as I've mentioned before, as his levels of these metabolites dropped, so did the level of his tics. Now, I rarely see him having any tics. My question is regarding his feet. The soles of his feet are always peeling - just like skin peels when it is badly sunburned. He has had this condition for years. When I read the book that Chemar recommends on yeast, John P. Trowbridge's The Yeast Syndrome one of the symptoms for having a yeast overgrowth on one of his lists was the skin peeling on the bottom of your feet. Our regular pediatrician said this was just an excema, nothing to be concerned about. However, I'm wondering if anyone else here who knows their child has a yeast overgrowth also has observed peeling on the bottom of their child's feet? If so, I was thinking that we could add that to Claire's quick test for yeast by spitting in glass of water http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...p?showtopic=578 Please let me know if you have observed this.
Claire Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Hi Phyl, I have never observed this myself, but I have read about yeast on the skin. By the way, tea tree oil applied topically is a wonderful antifungal--I believe double blind studies show it is affective for athletes foot. It wouldn't help with excema, but it should help if it is fungal in origin. Zinc (orally) is helpful for excema--and by the way, it is an antifungal too! So something to consider, as it would apply either way--yeast or excema Yeast overgrowth can make kids susceptible to excema so they are intertwined in any case. Sorry for your frustrations with the yeast issue. This is part of the reason why I am looking into MT promotion and going to the outreach clinic. Sorry, but I forgot, does your son have food sensitivities? My doctor said they can cause gastroint. inflammation and make a great place for yeast to grow. Glad your son is still doing well. Claire
Phyl Posted September 11, 2004 Author Report Posted September 11, 2004 Thanks Claire. Your comments are helpful. My son does not have food sensitivities that we know of; he had the blood test that determines food allergies a while ago and nothing showed up. He also has had the gluten/cassein test and that too is fine. I'm very glad that we have another doctor appointment coming up soon. I do give him extra zinc whenever we notice those white spots on his fingernails, but I'm not so consistent with it. I'll look for tea tree oil. Thanks.
