thereishope Posted March 19, 2010 Report Posted March 19, 2010 (edited) To do a poll, click "edit". Then you will see a prompt for manage topic's poll. Click that. The poll option will then come up. When you are ready to post your poll, click "post". You can still add it onto this thread. My son... First tried Claritin. Fine until day 11. Then super hyper and made some OCD pop back up. Switched to Benadryl. Did fine. Now...started Benadryl last Saturday. He's doing well, but may have to increase the dose. I hate the dosing on the liquid (1-2 tsp...well which one?) Tried 1 tsp, thinks he may need 1 1/2. he has also taken Flonase once and did well with it. Did not take it long term. Need to be careful with nose bleeds if taken long term. I did read on package that even though it is local, it can lower the immune system over time. He does not have tics. Edited March 19, 2010 by Vickie
MomWithOCDSon Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 We use Benedryl if he is stuffy at night. During the day he uses a prescription nose spray: Flonase. All good . . . negative impacts or interactions, and we use them year-round because he has some non-seasonal allergies, also (dust, cat dander, mold).
peglem Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 We've found that benedril brings on fight or flight meltdowns, but my daughter does not have allergies, and most likely did not have high histamine levels. We tried it for sleep.
MomWithOCDSon Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I forgot to mention, too, that we're trying quercitin as a supplement; it's supposed to be a natural histimine blocker. The jury's still out as to whether or not it is assisting, but, anecdotally, at least, he's sneezing less these days . . .
Suzan Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Highly allergic family here.... Me - Allegra daily, nasonex daily, over the counter eye drops, benadryl as needed dd7 - allegra, 2x daily dd8 - zyrtec am, benadryl pm, omnaris (steroid nasal spray) am, eye drops as needed. Allergy shots (2 (or so) into them). We do all this with no ramping of symptoms and it helps very much to supress allergy symptoms for the kids to help with their pandas symptoms. Allergies are a trigger for them. Susan
NancyD Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I highly recommend Quercetin, a plant-derived flavonoid that is used as a nutritional supplement. Studies show it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. I find it really helps with allergies and colds. We use that plus Ocean Sinus Irregation, which really cleans you out! My daughter takes about 2000 mg of Quercetin per day. It's one supplement we can't be without. Nancy
