JensOfSweden Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Hi! I have mild/medium tourettes. I usually have modest tics that don't really bother me that much unless I drink a couple cups of coffee (coffee is evil with tics) or eat sugar. Magnesium, taurine and b-vitamins make me much calmer, like many other people. Anyways, I work out alot and use some supplements. Normally I just use whey protein, with essential amino acids in it, including phenylalanine, tyrosine and high levels of glutamine etc. However this doesn't seem to be that much of a problem. I've recently gotten creatine and HMB too. Google if you don't know HMB because I don't know much about it tbh. I started ticcing heavily this morning (like I felt something was not right, I'm never like this). This morning I took the following before my heavy ticcing occurred: 4000 IU Vitamin D3 5 mg creatine I just remembered the ticcing started before I took the HMB. I recall having some sort of reaction to vitamin D before. How about creatine. Any takers? I really went into a tic fit like I never do before like this. Shouldn't creatine help with nerves etc?
Chemar Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 phenylalanine & tyrosine are dopaminergic so therefore have the potential to increase TS tics I believe creatine also attenuates dopamine action I dont know if HMB (Calcium beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate) is also dopaminergic but it wouldnt surprise me if it was so I think the combination of at least three dopaminergic substances, possibly four, is causing you to tic more

I just tried some more creatine to see the effects and within a couple of minutes I got huge tics again, I get premonitory urges to cramp really heavy, like my whole body. Head shaking, neck tic, just an explosive onset of tics. I'll stay away from creatine for now definately.
