Well we took our daughter to the Clinic tonight and the did a rapid test for Influenza A and it came back posative. We are starting to give her Tamiflu and hoping the PANDAS symptoms stay away. I guess this one got past the IVIG. I pray she is going to be okay she has had a rough few weeks. I think Dad is on the brink of jumping off a cliff.. Its a good thing I don't drink, maybe I need to start.. Just Kidding.

Doug,

I am so sorry about all this. I'm not sure even heavy drinking would help, so I guess it's good you won't even try. I really hope the tamiflu helps shorten things.

Just one thing to keep an eye on - when swine flu went thru in the fall, some kids on the forum did really well on tamiflu. My son took one dose and had vertigo and mild "hallucinations" - nothing crazy, just weird feelings. He also showed signs of tardive dyskinesia after 12 hours. Since tics were a big part of our PANDAS problem, we stopped after one dose. Our pharmacist reported the tardive dyskinesia to the CDC. Hopefully, you'll only have a positive result with the Tamiflu. I just wanted to let you know to keep a watchful eye - as if you weren't already!

You'll be in my thoughts.

Oh no, Doug! Your family is in my prayers. Have you contacted Dr K?

Thanks for the good advice about the Tamiflu, I did leave Dr. K a voicemail and a email. He hasn't responded yet. I hope this didn't throw off the IVIG at all. Anyone with thoughts ?

Doug- I am so sorry. My daughter got H1N1 a month after she has plasma pheresis (and was perfect at the time). We did tamiflu within the first 12 hours. It stopped the flu. Twenty four hours later, she started spiraling down into a pandas episode. We quickly went to a one month steroid burst, and she has been doing really well since (this was in November).

So- I am not trying to scare you, but to have you be prepared. I would discuss the possibility of a steroid burst (a months worth) if pandas stuff starts flaring, with your doc, now, so you are ready. The good news is, my daughter did well, and although I was upset, it gave me hope that we can manage this thing.

Keep us posted- and hang in there. And, I think if I were a drinker, I would be heading that way as well :(

Oh no! I am so sorry! Hang in there, I think I'd be running for the wine if it were me!

My dd8 had a reaction to either the flu or the tamiflu, not sure which, but I think it was the tamiflu. It was her next to last dose though so we just stopped it. She started being obsessed with flipping the bird and would talk about it all day and actually do it very fast and over and over! It went away within 1 day so everything was OK. Only mentioning it in case you notice anything smilar too.

Glad you have a call out to Dr. K! HUGS!!!

Oh no!....although I have a strange theory that it may be almost better to have the flu immediately post IVIG vs. in 2 mo...since your dd will still have lots of active IVIG stuff in her at this point. Let us know how things go. The first week or 2 post IVIG was kind of strange (turning back the pages etc) for us anyway.

I also think it would better to get the flu just after IVIG than just after plasmapheresis. Hopefully the IVIG will provide lots of good flu-fighting immunoglobins!
