Yesterday, she developed a fever, sore throat, and stomache ache. I asked pediatrician if Augmentin could cause a fever, and she said, though rare, antibiotics can sometimes do this. Just a thought for you! Good luck!!!

The 1/2 life of Augmentin isn't really much longer than Pen, (which we know needs to be given 2x daily). That's just my 2 cents. Has anyone ever found a study that shows that once daily Augmentin is actually effective for strep prevention?? I suppose Augmentin XR could be an exception to this...since the Amoxcillin in it is time release? Could the fever still be a "normal" reaction to the IVIG? I remember my dd had a fever/headache (flu-like symptoms) for a couple of days post IVIG. Not sure about the sore throat though...
Iowadawn Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 Our son had IVIG 4 1/2 mo ago. He had, what I called, some type of flu illness about 3 weeks out. He lacked the typical cough of the H1N1. Other symptoms of aching joints, fever, malaise, fatigue--grounded him for about 5 days. He did bounce back wonderfully. Actually, it was after this point that the encouraging improvements started. Trend (still with bumps) continued positive until Dec. Plateau and then spiral. (That's another post.) We are waiting for the green light from insurance for a second one as soon as we can get to Chicago. (We just rec'd payment for the first one! Another post, too!) Dawn
thereishope Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 I am going to look at the sore throat from different angles since I freak out with every cough or sore throat my kids or I have. Perhaps the ever and sore throat are not related. Is she drinking enough fluids? Sleeping with her mouth open? Do you have a humidifier you can run for a few nights? As for the fever, I've read that fevers are associated with IVIG. Out of curiosity, did your daughter have a strep test prior to IVIG? I know she had an onset of symptoms that were gone for awile and that's what prompted you to do IVIG.
