Hope
My son has gone thru lots of changes lately. Got ALCAT results back last week and we have since cut out wheat, potatoes, fructose, apples and a host of other foods. He can basically have rice and corn and grapes and strawberries! He is handling the changes pretty well. I have spent days and $$$ trying to find alternative foods for him. He has had several new products but mostly basic rice and gluten-free products with simple ingredients. Well, my question is about his stomach complaints. Before the change in diet he consistently had stomach aches. I was hoping this would go away with the elimination of the gluten. He has been dairy free for over a year already. Naturopath put him on 5htp about 2 weeks ago. I read that it can cause stomach aches. So wondering what is most likely the cause of his pains? Hard to know for sure! I had him stop taking the 5htp a couple days ago. He was saying it was hard to think and the stomach pains were worse than before the change in diet and 5htp. He is in a public speaking contest (declamation) at school tomorrow. He made it into the finals! God bless him for getting up there and doing his presentation! I am a bit nervous and hoping for the best! He is excited and doesn't seem at all nervous! He took Natural Calm before bed like he does every night and soaked his feet in epsom salts for about 20 mins too. Hoping those will help! So what do you think? How can I figure out what is causing his stomach pains? Any ideas? Also, what should I be concerned about with the 5htp? He is supposed to take 50mg at bedtime daily. He is 75 lbs and almost 11 years old. Thanks for any advice you have!
Chemar
it is so hard to try to guess what causes stomach ache Hope my son never got it from the 5HTP hoewever, starting 2005 (and when he was no longer taking 5HTP for about 2 years) he did begin having stomach aches and after much misdx, it was finally dx as Crohn's in 2006 after a colonoscopy/endoscopy not saying you child has Crohn's but just cautioning that sometimes stomach aches are worth investigating fully. I know that food intolerance can also trigger tummy aches, as can stress etc have you done gut candida albicans ("yeast") infection testing? that can also produce tummy aches just as an aside, my son has decided to go gluten/dairy free and has noticed tremendous benefit in his digestion, even tho he did not test intolerant to gluten or dairy products. He has also been totally corn free for some years now so many of our kids with neuro probs also seem to have GIT issues dont they!
