fiore
I'm curious to know if anyone has had, or knows of someone, who has used accupunture to treat Tourettes/tics. My daughter is 6yrs and is in the process of being diagnosed with Tourettes. Currently we are trying to treat it through diet and supplements, however, we haven't seen a change as of yet. Andy
Hi Fiore, I had read some positive things about accupunture and massages as a reducer but not as an inhibitor. I wish you the best of luck and to hang in there. Right now we are in a frustrated state for after a preschool year of low frequency of tics to no tics, our son is in a constant state of many frequent tics. However, we did help our son keep the tics in check where he had what his friends called food allegies and his only handicap was a different diet. So we are hopeful to get back to that with more tests, different treatments and looking into baking our own bread, making our own fruit/veggie drinks etc. You might want to look into that as well where we are the ones who control what is actually going into our children's bodies. May I also suggest to keep a journal of what foods, what activities etc to try to find and remove triggers to the tics. This is the third hard summer for my son. Could it be clorine, sunscreen lotion, a mold that is in the air, etc. These are the questions that as parents we must ask and look into. We are not in a easy boat but with time and helping each other, our boat will get out of the rough water and sail in calm seas. I hope I don't seem like I am preaching for I consider myself more as the student who is learning new things everyday myself. So please share any infomation that you may have yourself. Chemar
Hi fiore as i mentioned in my email, we did use accupuncture and with great success. My son actually considers accupuncture to be the most instantaneous tic relief of all! It has sometimes totally stopped severe tics, and usually reduces all tics. we see a highly proffessional therapist who does reflexology, aromatherapy and biofeedback (NOT neurofeedback) too Usually, while the accupuncture needles are in place, he will do reflexology and other pressure point massage, using aroma oils that are soothing and relaxant. When my son was in severe mode and detoxing from the yeast mercury etc, the biofeedback was very beneficial. If you are going to do accupuncture, choose a licenced proffessional who uses accupuncture as a clinical procedure, rather than one who performs it more as a "mystical" phenomenon. stay in touch! sgrunin
ouch I have heard that accupuncture hurts or can hurt depending on how well you can take it. I cant imagine a child sitting there while its done! Oh yeah...definitely keep track of foods, its allergy season now...pollen, mold, dust etc... I know that a lot of sugar bothers me so I have to try and not drink soda and candy all day.... Scott
Chemar
Scott accupuncture does not hurt at all!! at least not if you go to a qualified proffessional. I have had it done numerous times as has my son, and we have never had any pain from it, only relief. The needles are thin as thread and in the hands of a pro they are in before you are even aware of it and give no pain entering or while in or when removed perhaps those who have reported pain were in the hands of someone who was not a very good accupuncturist. sgrunin
How far do they put the pins in? The only time I have ever seen it done is in the movies and I know they exaggerate it....just like they exaggerage tourettes(always in a funny way though) Every time I think of accupuncture I think of getting a tattoo....needles dont sit well with me. Chemar
I hear ya Scott.....I am personally a coward when it comes to needles and avoid injections like the plague however after my first accupuncture session I realised it was something very different By the way a BIG welcome to Latitudes It is great to have you as part of our community
sgrunin
Thank you very much :-) I think I have read ever post here a few times already! I think I would pass out with needles in me..Even if they didnt hurt..I would be thinking about it and get myself all worked up! Scott
