DD8 has been sick this week. She came home on Monday with a headache and stomachache. On Tuesday she started getting dizzy and lost her appetite. When she would get the dizzy spells, her head, stomach, chest and throat would hurt and she would feel worse for a while. Then she'd go back to feeling how she was before. She never had a fever. I took her to our Dan! doctor today since it was continuing. He though maybe it was from yeast overgrowth. He put her on an antifungal and also had her take a motion sickness pill. That made her feel much better.

Throughout it all, her PANDAS behavior was ramped up and it's been a hard week. We increased her zith back to 500 mg a day last week. I was hoping for a marked improvement but then this happened.

Her exam didn't show anything else wrong. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Doc said she could take up to 400mg of motrin 3x a day too at her weight (72lbs) and suggested we do that to reduce any inflamation in her sinus and ears and continue with the antifungul that he prescribed and motion sickness pills.

Edit - meant to also ask if anyone has noticed these symptoms during pandas episode

Have not seen that with yeast- but is she drinking enough water? Sounds like dehydration.

That's what I thought at first but no change after upping her h20 and other liquids.

Don't want to flog a dead horse here but.... could this be strep breakthrough even on the zith....

headaches/stomach ache/throat/chest could all be an infection and if the ears are infected too, this could cause dizziness.. unlikely maybe but it is worth considering?

I admit I tend to see strep everywhere but is it worth adding in another abx (dr t suggested clindamycin to us for breakthroughs but we are only on 600 mg per week)?

Well, that would go along with her ramped up symptoms and that episode of wetness we had last week or so. I will take this under consideration. We see the immunologist tomorrow so I'll bring it all up.

Not quite the same, but, when I have had episodes of getting a lot more wireless radiowave exposure, which I am very sensitive to, it has resulted in headaches and a lot of other symptoms like irritability and ADHD and indigestion and loose stool (that exposure always does that), but, during the day when the increased exposure started, there was also dizziness, a sign of yeast infection growing. Since then, I have started on antifungals that have made quite a difference, until re-exposed to yet higher levels of radiowaves. By the way, apparently a recent study shows that 24 hours of EMF exposure to a petri dish that is in balance with lots of bacteria and a little bit of fungus will result in the bacteria being completed destroyed and the petri dish taken over by the fungus.

so how would you really know if it was breakthrough strep? the culture would be negative right? My ds is on azith right now but my dd has strep throat... she is at the beginning of a 10 day dose of antibiotics... so if I don't see anything wonky in my ds I assume the antibiotics are doing their job but if I see anything wonky I assume it's breakthrough strep? So far so good but I guess I am just waiting for it to happen.

We saw our immunologist today and I told her all about this. She feels like it's a result of stopping her flonase due to her nose bleeds and that it's her allergies stirring everything up so badly and causing the dizziness. DD has very bad allergy results and high IgE. The doc said Flonase is known to cause nose bleeds so she gave us Omnaris to try. She believes that one reason dd has been having a hard time and her OCD is ramping up is partly because of her allergic reactions. Her sinuses are in bad shape and luckily she's on the antibiotics or she'd probably have a sinus infection.

We discussed allergy shots at great lenght. We are going to go through with it with the understanding that she will stay on full dose abx (500mg zith daily) and will continue with her current allergy meds and that we will monitor her closely for PANDAS symptoms.

We also discussed changing antibiotics if things don't turn around soon once we get her back on the nasal steriods to work on any hidden or unresolved strep.

I now have my immunologist working with our neurologist and now Dr. T so I am feeling good about the team I am building up here in town. Our neurologist is now working with more PANDAS patients and approving IVIG so if the allergy shots and abx don't do it for us, I know I can work on an IVIG path at some point if it looks like we need it.

Susan, that is really great that you have been able to get them to all work together!!

How does your daughter feel about shots? Is that going to be difficult or is she ok with them?

Well, today she seemed OK about it. She's not thrilled, don't get me wrong! But she is excited about the fact that it may help her dark circles go away and help her feel better. I'm going to get my allergies tested and hopefully get my shots going too so we can go together (the apple didn't fall far from the tree regarding her allergies, LOL).

I am just terrified to try the shots. If it messes her up from a PANDAS perspective, it will be hard to forgive myself.

Allergies are a known trigger for my son. They were pretty bad in spring and we had a huge setback in recovery due to them. Once we got them under control, he really improved. Allergies are probably aiding in increasing OCD in your daughter.

Now it may be hard to tell whether it was the yeast treatment or the change in allergy spray, but dd8 is doing much better. I am tending to think the yeast treatment was helpful but the allergy spray is what has made the biggest difference. I think this was a learning experience for me to see how much allergies really do trigger my dd.
