EAMom Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Yes...but it may be helpful if WD is trying to figure out where his son's exposure (since he's home-schooled) is coming from...if it's his other kids, himself, his wife, the butler, or what. You know, just a piece in the puzzle. The titers wouldn't necessarily tell you how long ago the infection was (or if there is a current one)...although serial titers may give a bit more info. than just a single sample.
ajcire Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 Makes sense! dut Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 EAmom - i did do a post on this but.. was wondering if you happen to know why streptozyme isn't routinely run. I know there are questions over its accuracy but the fact that it covers 3 additional exoenzymes and that some (older) papers suggest it is useful for those twho tend not to show a rise in ASO despite documented infection.. ?? thanks
Iowadawn Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 But don't positive titers just indicate that at one point there was strep? Dr. Cunningham looked at my 15 yo daughter's titers of 752/5700 and said "Your daughter has an active strep infection." My guess is that a high enough result may signal that it is still going on. We had no idea. BTW, she has been doing very well on the Augmentin 875mg 2x DAY prescribed by Dr. K for what he feels is the adol. variant of PANDAS. He feels it should be done & over with after a month of abx. I'm not going to hold my breathe. We'll watch her closely. Dawn WD--I think it is worthwhile doing if you can't get a positive culture...as long as everyone understands that neg titers don't completely rule out strep since some people just don't make them.
