momaine Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I've written about dd 13 and the fact that on Augmentin xr 2000mg she had no tics for 10 days and things were going pretty well. Then the tics returned with a vengence a couple days ago and the ocd was worse than ever. It was those two terrible days that she also complained a LOT about itching in her genital area. (In hind site I believe she had strep of the vaginal area before and we did not know it but since we're treating her with antibiotics I thought it should clear that up) However, yesterday she said it was more her butt itching and she was going crazy and finally let me look. She has a rash on her botton, that is tiny red dots very close together and they go in a line, shaped like a crescent moon. Very itchy. I gave her benedryl last nigth and put some salve for yeast infections on it and she went to sleep. Any idea what this could be? Could it be a form of strep or a form of yeast? Or other? Could it be related to her exacerbation? Angela

LNN Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 You may want to take her to a doctor to check for impetigo - a Group A strep infection of the skin. Hopefully it's something easily treatable...
dut Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Hello With 1 minor flare and 1 major episode our dd got a very itchy bottom. With the flare there was nothing to see but with the full blown episode it was round/reddish plaques rather than spots about 2-3 millimetres across. I have since found info on guttate psoriasis and I believe it was that. It comes on after a strep infection but couldn't check with a derm 'cos it had resolved by then..... not sure it sounds the same as what your child is experiencing though....

Hopefully it's something easily treatable... If it were impetigo, would it still show up while she is on antibiotics? Wouldn't it also be treated by antibiotics if it were that? Today is slighty better. Still lots of reassurance questions but less tics. Angela
momaine Posted December 11, 2009 Author Report Posted December 11, 2009 I've left a message at the doctor's office. Hoping she'll call. I'm leaning toward it being a yeast infection. She's on antibiotics and she had her period. Those pads don't make it very breathable in that area. Do you think a yeast infection could also cause an exacerbation? It would be anything that stresses the immune system, right? And any type of infection would do that. Also left a message with Dr. Trifiletti's office as we are going to see if we can get in with him in the next two weeks. I'm tired of not having an expert on board and having to figure out everything myself so I can tell my doctor about it. Thanks for all your help. I don't know what I would do without all of you to help me. Angela You may want to take her to a doctor to check for impetigo - a Group A strep infection of the skin. peglem Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 We just recently had my daughter in for a yeast infection (it was cultured and was confirmed to be yeast only), the dr. mentioned that girls are more susceptible to yeast just prior to a period. My daughter had only had one period, 2 months ago, so we had no idea if she was pre-period or not. (I guess not!) Anyway, I would think its a yeast infection, if she had both the antibiotic and her cycle as factors.
