Add dermatographism to our list of diagnoses. Grrr....just wondering if anyone else is dealing with this since it can be related to autoimmune issues

I have dermographism (I think this is the same as dermatographism). I think that is pretty common. I also have vibrational uriticaria which is a physical urticaria (rare I understand). Usually it's related to exercise. Jogging is the worst trigger, but it can happen with fast walking. Biking is fine, except for the time I biked over a whole bunch of bumpy rocks. Eliptical machines, swimming, etc are fine...as long as there is not a jarring (vibration) motion. It helps to pre-med with anti-histamines if I am going to be hiking or doing brisk walking. If my body is used to running (eg I am doing it every day), something happens where my body becomes acclimated. If I just jog once in a while, I'll get very itchy (to the point where I have to stop running.)

Anyway, my PANDAS dd has also exhibited both dermographism and some vibrational urticaria. Actually my other dd (hopefully not pandas) has dermographism as well.

I don't know if it is related to auto-immune issues...a doc has said "oh, you are a big histamine cascader"...which sounds like an allergic thing. Here's Wikipedia's take on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermatographic_urticaria

Here's something on vibrational urticaria:

Physical urticaria from heat, cold, pressure, vibration, solar radiation, or exercise can usually be diagnosed from the patient's history. Cold-induced urticaria and solar urticaria are manifest by lesions on exposed areas. Cold-induced urticaria can result in life-threatening systemic reactions from swimming in cold water. Generalized heat urticaria, or cholinergic urticaria, produces characteristically small lesions 1 to 2 mm in diameter and occurs in situations causing cutaneous vasodilation such as exercise, hot baths, and emotional upsets. Dermatographia, which consists of urticaria occurring with skin stroking or scratching, is a common phenomenon that seldom produces severe symptoms. Urticaria or angioedema from vibration or sustained pressure is rare.
