pixiesmommy Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Okay, so we are FINALLY going to celebrate Pixie's 9th b-day with a trip to downtown Chicago (we had to delay b/c of IVIG and my MIL was diagnosed with Breast Cancer....) So we are making the plans to get everyone together for this long awaited "party" and we find out that my BIL and SIL have just had the seasonal flu vaccine. The one friend who is invited for an overnight w/us may have also recently been vaccinated (I haven't yet gotten the nerve to ask, but I will....) Do you worry about this? I know that there are a million people she is around day in and day out, but these people will be sitting close to her, hugging her, playing with her... and her friend and she will share a bed that night, so obviously that is a concern. I know the H1N1 is not live if you have had the shot, but I wonder what the shed time is for the nasal spray- anyone know? I'm having a hard time finding studies, though I can find threads on www.mothering.com that say at LEAST 3 weeks for any live vax.... Anyone??? I'm worried I am going to have to either ask people not to come or to postpone again if her friend has been vaxed.
thereishope Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 That's a hard one. You could take the phrase "you can't keep her in a bubble" and just go and have fun. The truth is she is probably exposed to people who have just been vaccinated every day. Just bring some hand sanitizer in your bag, remind her no food or drink sharing, etc. Have fun!
EAMom Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 Hopefully the recent IVIG will also help protect Pixie!
ShaesMom Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 My dd played with her two neighbor friends immediately after they had the nasal vaccine (regular flu) without our knowledge. I was a bit scared when I found out but it was three days later and she did not have any reactions when she had been around them. I asked our Immuno about exposure and he told us that we shouldn't really be concerned-it was highly unlikely that anything would happen-but recommended no one in the immediate family have the vaccines. As long as no one is sneezing on her-she should be fine. Keep the hand santizer in your pocket and don't be afraid to ask the adults to use it.

I don't know if you are into alternative stuff/supplements, but I would recommend silver. My son has been on it since July, slowly upping the dose to 1 tsp./day. We ALL go the flu this week, except for him (who supposedly is immuno-compromised!) so I think the silver is working, and probiotics are very important too. Also, a friend of mine is from Rumania, and her SIL was saying over there N1H1 is rampant, and what they are recommending is Vitamin D3 to boost immunity. Isabel

Isabel Are you using collodial or ionic silver? We have started using it too but are in the early stages. We have both, but I am using the collodial to try to get rid of anything we feel we are coming down with and the ionic for daily doses. I noticed when I was using the collodial every day, I was having what I think was die off symptoms. I think it's great stuff but I have yet to know how it may help my PANDAS girls. Susan
