MichaelTampa Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Reading the other posts of getting blood drawn in a doctor's office made me second-guess my plan for getting blood drawn. Can I just take it to LabOne or Qwest? Maybe they will require a doctor's prescription for the blood draw? Perhaps the Cunningham kit will not have that? Am I supposed to have one of my doctor's actually do the blood draw? Michael

There will not be a prescription for it. I had been really nervous to ask my ped to do it but much to my surprise he was extremely open to doing it. You can email Madeline Cunningham regarding participating in the study. Ok, just saw your other post where you have been in contact with Dr. Cunningham already regarding this.
peglem Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Ask your doc. If he/she won't do it, call the lab and explain you need a sample for this study and see if they will do it. We asked at the lab when we were there for other bloodwork and they just drew 2 more vials for the study.

We asked at the lab when we were there for other bloodwork and they just drew 2 more vials for the study. We just had the most pleasant experience at our local "Can'tsaythename" lab. The technician was a bit confused in the beginning but then my husband explained what it was for and she was willing to do it, except since there was no "doctor order" she couldn't find a way to log it in or anything, so she did not even charge us. She just said "YOU WERE NEVER HERE" It's spun, cold packed, and on it's way to Oklahoma!
Kayanne Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I called the local labs and asked if they needed a script from my dd's ped...they told me to call the main local hospital because that is where they do these types of blood draws...called the hospital lab, and I was told no script needed...I had it done at the local hospital, and paid up front as a self pay for the fees...they shipped it right from the hospital because they were not allowed to release specimins. I think a lot depends on where you live, just call around explain it and see what you are told to do.
