We are all (except Pixie) recovering from a flu or really rotten cold. She has not been symptomatic whatsoever, but has complained the past couple of days of a sore throat (says she thinks it is due to sinus drainage) and the insides of her nose.

Really complaining today about her nose and says it just feels raw and sore inside.

I'm debating taking her to the dr to get a swab and I wonder if they should swab her nose or something too if I *do* go?

(Man, everyone is sick here and walking into a dr office right now seems like walking into the thick of it! ugh!!!)

No behavioral stuff going on with her- in fact (knock on wood!!) she is having a really great week so far.

WWYD?

We have rapid strep test at home. You can purchase on-line if you don't want to take her into the Dr.'s office for the swab.

Glad to hear she is doing well.

Is her nose scabby inside? Has she been blowing it alot? I wonder if you put some topical antibiotic (just a little to coat, not gobs), it will heal anything that is present that isn't strep. If it was just a result of drainage, the ointment should provide some relief in a day or 2.

If the sores in the nose persist, have it tested for MRSA (methicillan resistant staphylococcus aureus)- or if you get it tested for strep have them check for that, too. Its very contagious!

I just ordered some rapis strep tests online! I do not know why I did not think of that before! Thanks SF mom! I am definitely a little strep obsessed though. Tonight my 6 year old (non-PANDAS) said his bottom hurt and his anus was really red. I immediately started thinking that if it did not get better with an antifungal I would take him in for a culture. He completed IV rocephin and omnicef two weeks ago so it is probably yeast but I would love to be able to culture at home.

My daughter's pediatrician sent me home with some swabs and tubes to put them in...so if I feel it needs checking, I can do the swab and bring it in to the office. They'll send it out for culture.

My kids often get the red itchy bum whenever they eat too much sugar. It can definitely be a yeast issue. This may sound gross, but sometimes we put some plain yogurt on their bums when they get in bed and it seems to really help.

I've heard of this remedy for vag. yeast as well. Never tried it, but have friends who swear by it!

Emailed Dr K because her throat is worse, has headache, chills. We all (except her) battled a cold or flu for the past 10 days or so that is lingering with us, so I suppose she is finally getting it. He quadrupled her abx for 10 days.

her eye tic is back and she is really lethargic, but otherwise seems okay. i'm holding my breath!

I am new and this may make me look stupid. I am the mother of the boy not wanting IVIG. Our family got the flu and I sent my son to my mother's immediately so he would not get it. Well , he did get it - 104 fever, headache, etc. I thought since it was a virus there was nothing I could do. He had just started 875 Augmentin twice a day from Dr.K (we are lucky to get him to take it once a day). Now I am just waiting for the you know what to hit the fan. It usually hits after not during illness. I am hoping we can dodge this because he was recently on steroids. Should he increase his abx when he gets a virus? Sorry I am new to this way of thinking.
