On Aug. 4, CBS News asked the CDC for e-mail communications to states and other documents regarding the guidance and its rationale. When CDC did not provide us with the documents, such as state-by-state numbers prior to halting testing and tracking, we filed a Freedom of Information request with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). More than two months later, the request has not been fulfilled.
They wonder why people talk of "conspiracies"?

Ontario family MD fights to get H1N1 results

Part-time physician, 81, had flu-like illness, but needed answers to continue practising

After he and his wife, who’s also a physician, fell sick in August, they took their own mucus swabs and submitted the samples to the local microbiology lab for testing. Both came back negative for the H1N1 virus, said Eng.

Wanting to double-check the accuracy of the tests, the couple tried to submit blood samples to determine whether they had developed H1N1 antibodies.

“When you recover from an illness, the blood test should be able to show antibodies against that virus, if it was a viral infection,” said Eng.

But the lab refused to run the test.

“We were told family practitioners like myself couldn’t order the test. Only hospital authorities could,” said Eng.

In a last-ditch attempt to get an answer, Eng last month joined 1,700 Ontarians in a provincewide study that promised to test volunteers for the presence of the H1N1 antibody in their blood

So, I'm wondering about this sentence. What exactly does this imply, if anyone can elaborate on? Is the above an accurate statement. Antibiotics only work on "bacterial" infection they say, but what about the viral component? Is this saying that antibodies are involved in viral infections too? I think that is what my mind is trying to understand lately. as I hve not been able to definitevely prove that my son has any strep that can be detected. All the PANDAS symptoms seem to be based on "strep A", .... most of my son's illnesses seem to be viral.....has it been established that virals can also be the cause of this? if the above is stating antibodies are involved in viral response, then I suppose it is possible. because we know that it is not really the "strep" that is causing all this, but the "antibodies" that have mistakenly attacked the wrong target, correct?

My doctor checked my dd for some viral infections that he said could cause neurological problems in people who's body did not properly clear the virus. She showed positive response to HHV6 showing that she had the virus at some point in the past. So yes, I believe they can test to see if the body has antibodies and that they can cause pandas type epsodes.

Faith,

Your body can form antibodies to all sorts of things, including virus, and yes an abnormal attack on "self" can be brought about by viral infections.

The real reason that I posted that, was to point out that they ARE perfectly capable of testing titers for H1N1. Why would "they" want to do that tho? It would be costly (if you're talking about a world population at least) and they want all of those expensive vaccines used up. Tax payers are on the hook for SO much, I'm sure the H1N1 vaccines could be thrown into the mix and be paid for anyway, without jeopardizing the health of anyone who was going to get absolutely NO benefit from an injection for which they already had protective antibodies.

How refreshing to see some actual investigative reporting going on! Thanks for posting this P.Mom.

I had breakfast with the moms from my son's playgroup yesterday and they were all talking about how they couldn't wait to run out and get their kids and themselves the H1N1 vaccine. I was just silent. They all know my reservations about vaccines. I think they were all horrified when I stopped vaccinating my son at age 3 and signed a philosophical exemption for my son's kindergarten vaccines. I sent them this article this morning and one of the moms, who works at a hospital, sent back an article about a girl in Vacaville, CA who died of "possible" H1N1 (no comment on the CBS News article).

They were all so pleased when I told them we'd decided to have Alex get the Pneumovax to test for an immune deficiency. I know they just don't get why that was such a difficult decision for us, and that there are real dangers associated with vaccines. Maybe you have to experience it, or have a close friend or family member go through it before you really get it.

Let them run out to get the vaccine if they must....they have been made aware of the potential complications......who knows what this vaccine will yield 10 years down the road. Like my personal doc said...."Kelly...let the world around you get vaccinated....just don't YOU do it."

Yes...they seem to always say "possible" H1N1.....there was a story like that here in Pittsburgh with a 40 something healthy woman dying.....they claimed, before knowing ANYTHING...that it may be a "possible" case of H1N1. It was big on the news for 1 day.....

then I never heard another thing about it. They must have found out it wasn't!??

How many people/children die form the regular flu every year??? Deaths happen with any flu. I am not trying to make lite of the situation......it is a concern....just as regular flu/illness..STREP  ..is..... I just think the media has always been VERY good at making people panic and then over react.. (is that supposed to be one word?)

I would venture to guess that no person can answer that....not even the CDC or makers of the H1N1 vaccine. I mean...how would they know??? What experience are they going off of???
