My son was diagnosed with Tourettes a year ago. He is now 7. We

noticed "habits" when he was 4. When the neurologist diagnosed him, we

were pretty much told that we could medicate him if we thought the tics

were severe enough, but for the most part we needed to just be

supportive and keep a good attitude about the situation. Well, his tics

have gotten fairly bad at times and then will disappear for months. It

is so bizarre. I guess, because they will disappear for such a long

amount of time (waning) I am skeptical that it could be allergy

related. However, after reading the success stories on here and being

that we are in a waxing time right now, shaking out his hands is the new tic, I am willing to try anything and

everything. I feel for the first time after reading on this site that I

am really not alone with this syndrome. I just want to make sure I know

I have done everything in my power to make this better for him.

Mommy,

The 'easiest' things to do without testing are to do an elimination diet and then after a few weeks if successful, add foods back in. Or eliminate 'screens' (TV/Computer/Gameboy/Movies) for a week and see if you get results. (You should start to notice some improvement in 4 days or less).

Unfortunately, though these are both 'easy' in that they are cheap and don't require a doctor, both are probably the hardest on your child.

So I come back to finding a naturopath or DAN doctor who can guide you through a process, and there are multiple links here. They are hard to find in your area 'randomly' so I would definitely use the links.

Some things they just get more sensitive to as they get older which can explain some of the waxing.

Good luck!

Claire

Hi Mommy and welcome to Latitudes :)

Please let us know if there is any specific information that you require...it can sometimes all get a little overwhelming with all the alternative treatments available.

Be encouraged that there is MUCH reason to feel hopeful that you CAN improve your child's quality of life, and, although TS itself is not curable (yet :( ) still there are ways to reduce the symptoms to the point of not having it rule one's life!

Chemar, Mommy

After reading Chemar's welcoming post, I realized how abrubt mine soundedI am sorry, and Good luck to you.

I worked an 18 hour day yesterday and worked this weekend again also.

I must take a break from posting until things settle.

So I probably won't be back for a month unless I have major news.

I should add that I am going to add milk back for my son. He is not getting enough fluids without it and trying to use fruit to compensate, which can't help the yeast. He only tested at a "1" for milk and can have other milk products.

If I notice a reaction I will stop, but I never noticed anything in the past.

Good luck to you all!

Claire

ps Chemar, sorry if I misquoted you on the other thread, it was late and I was typing fast. People do need to be careful when picking a doctor, you are so right!

Hey Claire :(

you are far too valuable a member of our group to disappear for a month!!

I was not at all upset at being "misquoted"...just had to clarify in case someone misunderstood and took offense!

I know what it is like to work long hours...I now have seven online venues to maintain and work from home too, so combining business, housework, mommy, wife and everything else sometimes gets sooooooooooooo overwhelming!

So I do sympathise and empathise and hope you will still be here to share and care in the special way that you do :)
