colleenrn Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I was just wondering if anyone knows or has had this discussion with any of their physicians/NP as to whether our children are more at risk for things like meningitis b/c their BBB is not intact. I am not trying to open a can of worms, but have always wondered this and can't seem to find an answer. The reason I am wondering this today is that my 8 year old is on day 9 of the flu. While his symptoms are getting better and he is not running a fever anymore, he still has a headache. He had it all day yesterday and this morning. It is not excruciating by any means, but this is not normal for him. Thanks, Colleen
EAMom Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Wow...nine days? That seems really long. My PANDAS dd had the flu (H1N1?) for 5 days. Her younger sister was better a day or 2 before that.
thereishope Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 My kids and myself have the flu too. Congestion is part of the symptoms for 2 of us and that is causing headaches. Can you hear any congestion? Also, if he had that annoying cough like my 8 year old had that would cause a headache from the constant forceful movement. As for the length, the doc says on average it lasts 5 days. However, for my 8 year old, the fever lasted 3 days, the overall tired and hacking cough lasted 5 days, but he still has an on again, off again cough 8 days after the onset of symptoms.
colleenrn Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 He is congested and coughing, so that may be why his head hurts. He went for about 2 days with no headache though, and now it is back. He is still so tired. He also is very pale. Two of my other kids have the same symptoms (did not have them tested) but theirs is much more mild, thank goodness. Hope you and your children are better soon! Colleen
