Claire
Hi Chemar and efgh (and anyone else who knows!), My son has been taking a Calcium Citrate supplement for his calcium deficiency. I know that Magnesium is important when taking Calcium, so I asked the doctor at the lab and he said that he could take Cal-Mag Citrate supplement. Now I am wondering. What is the difference between Magnesium and Magnesium Taurate? I would like to give him Calcium plus Magnesium Taurate, but don't want to double up with Cal-Mag and Magnesium Taurate. Does Magnesium Taurate totally satisfy the magnesium need if I am targeting 2 to 1 Calcium to Magnesium? Plus, why is Magnesium Taurate difference and/or better than just Magnesium? Chemar, how much Caprillic Acid did you give your son a day during the yeast detox? Did you totally stop following the yeast elimination, or do you still occasionally give it? My cousin had chronic fatigue the last I knew 8 years ago--we haven't spoke in so long. Anyway, it turns out she has had great success with accupuncture and homeopathic methods. She went through some yeast detox years ago, but it didn't seem to help. Thanks in advance, Claire
Guest Guest_efgh
Claire Magnesium taurate is nothing but a compound containing magnesium plus taurine both of which are supposed to help tics, sleep etc. There is nothing like "only magnesium" as far as i know. It either comes as magnesium oxide, magnesium asparatate, magnesium citrate, magnesium glycinate, magnesium taurate. As per Bonnie , magnesium taurate or magnesium glycinate are supposed to be good absorbable forms and are in general useful for tics. the ratio suggested between calcium and magnesium is generally 2:1 Claire, how are your son's symptoms these days. my son is doing ok but the moment he watches the TV he gets NON STOP tics. otherwise he is fine.. Any suggestions or inputs on this from any of you. I worry as to how he can cope WITHOUT TV for long in life... Just venting out.. inpuits from any of you would help me a lot. Chemar
Hi Claire efgh has given a very good reply there re the various forms of magnesium. There is also magnesium stearate which i recall Bonnie advises against. Both magnesium and taurine have been found (mainly as per Bonnie's research) to have a calminative effect on tics and Bonnie's current thesis is based on the premise of magnesium deficiency in TS (sorry Bonnie..I realise that is a major oversimplification ) Anyway, it is a very good idea to take calcium, magnesium AND zinc together in the ratio of 2:1 cal:mag (usually 800:400mg) balanced with around 50mg zinc. As far as i know there are currently only two available sources for magnesium taurate as a single supp...that is from Bonnie and from The Vitamin Shoppe. I give a calc/mag/zn combo with an added capsule of Taurine from TwinLab As to the capryllate.....we went thru various doses....we FIRST had to start the special detox diet and use no capryllate then...after 2 weeks we used capryllate and had to increase dose weekly over a 4 week period. On max dose for 2 weeks. Now he takes it for 1 week after every six off.
Claire
Thanks efgh and Chemar, I did buy the Vitamin Shoppe Magnesium Taurate. Now I just need a Calcium supplement without Magnesium and I can give both. I am mostly interested in it for sleep--to replace the Melatonin over time. My calcium supplement from Solaray has "Magnesium Oxide" or Magnesium Citrate". Chemar, I am little by little reading the Yeast Syndrome book. I just don't know if I can get a 'no sugar' yogut down my son! I will try stevia and vanilla perhaps. Did you do the garlic capsules? I know they recommend the probiotics, and he has been taking those supplements for months. I have a friend with chronic vaginal yeast whom I am trying to talk into this! Guest searching
Chemar, What is your specific vitamin / suplement breakdown for your son? Also how much Inosital does he take? I'm only looking for info on OCD breakthroughs.
Chemar
hi Searching his supp program has varied a bit with his symptoms, but this is what he is on now (14yo, 150lbs) I have highlighted the OCD stuff and added the doses. He is NOT currently taking GABA, but does when anxiety increases (havent seen that in a wonderfully long time) MORNINGS 1 multivitamin/mineral (the multi has all the good antioxidants etc, and is high in the B group vits, and I add a B1 and a B6 ) 1 combo flax/borage/omega-3 oil 1 Evening Primrose Oil 1 Lecithin 2 ginko biloba(for ADD) 1 St Johns Wort (for OCD) 300mg 1 L-Carnitine 1 Royal Jelly 1 Inositol (for OCD) 500mg 1 GrapeSeed extract 1 Bilberry(for vision and antioxidant) in the evening he gets 1 5HTP (for OCD-) 50mg 1 combo cal/mag/zinc 1 taurine 1 Methionine (for OCD 500mg We also try to watch the diet VERY carefully so he eats healthy good stuff, no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners and NO HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, no caffeine and mimimal sugar(we only use pure Turbinado sugar) he likes pure dark chocolate, and is allowed some of that, and I try to make most things from scratch. Other complementary treatments that have been helpful to my son are: accupuncture biofeedback (we do NOT do neurofeedback) yeast (candida) control, along with other parasite elimination detoxification and heavy metal elimination environmental modifications to eliminate as much dustmite, mold, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, chlorine and other things that seem to trigger tics or OCD for him. Let me know if you need any more details
